I found out about My House Burgers through Yelp and all of the great reviews. Since it's located close enough to where I live, it was just another reason for me to finally pay it a visit, especially since I was craving burgers (as I often am).
Two friends and I came in on a rainy Tuesday night at around 6:30. The place is super small as in they have two four-person tables, and these two couches facing each other, that looked like they belonged more in Central Perk than a burger joint. I think this place is meant more for take out than dine in.
But if you do decide to dine in, what you do is grab a table (if there's one available), order at the counter (check in on Yelp for 10% off), and then they'll bring you your food (comes out pretty quickly).
I ordered the Picante Burger (1/2 lb beef patty, lettuce, tomato, grilled onions, jalapeños & house spicy salsa on the side). The patty itself was pretty good albeit greasy but I guess that may be why it was that good! Make sure you tell them how you want your burger cooked while ordering because they won't ask you otherwise. There was a little too much onions and pickled jalapeños on there but not really a deal breaker. The salsa tasted like canned supermarket salsa. Overall, I liked the burger.
But the fries....the fries were really what knocked this review down from 4 stars to 3. Fries are very important when accompanying a burger. It should complement the burger. Make the burger look good. It should upgrade the burger. They should be working in perfect harmony. That was not the case at all here. Sometimes, if fries are not good at a certain place, I might give them the benefit of the doubt and try it again a second time. But not here. We tried fries 3 separate styles and all were less than mediocre. The garlic fries were just fries with a boat load of garlic powder sprinkled over it. No real garlic to be found anywhere. The fire fries were overly seasoned to the point that they were so spicy that it actually tasted bitter. The types of spices they used did not work well with each other at all. The cheese fries just just a big blob of cheese in the center that tasted like it came from a can. As disgusting as that sounds, that one was probably the best out of the three. If you prefer quantity over quality, then you should get these fries because they give you such a huge amount that it would be impossible for one human being to finish them. Normally, I wouldn't be complaining about too much food but in this case, it just wasn't very good.
Long story short, if you're hankering for a big ole greasy burger, check this place out. But make sure you...
Read moreThe burger didn't taste like a frozen Patty and giving it two stars is for that reason only. The cooked onions on it is what gave this burger taste, the bun was fine but toasted would be better and obviously help the burger and bun from falling apart in your hands. The lettuce on it was more like a rough cut but for the price some real greens would seem better. Someone felt family wrote some reviews and perhaps it's family owned cause when we gave our order I found it strange that three gentleman were standing there of which one took order and it didn't seem or was implied that they, other two, were in training. Odd! Had different people come to the table and no idea who actually was our server. We asked for utensils and never got them. We asked for water and was short one for the table. I tried the buffalo wings. It was more like any other place, nothing special or worthwhile. I read a review of someone saying the best in NY, they have no idea, I've done better, been at some bars and near Korea Town with different versions of wings that will blow this place away for wings. It seemed like friend chicken with hot sauce poured over it, not even coated overall, a similar or familiar taste and or texture like the one from Johnny Rockets. Most places have it coated entirely to where your hands are covered with any particular wing sauce, unless they are a dry rub or baked. I was disappointed. Even more disappointing was there so called version of garlic fries, which had garlic powder, and fries are shoestrings which can easily be overcooked. REALLY??!! These days you can already find peeled garlic to save time but I guess powder is obviously cheaper or here's a crazy suggestion why not implement both to strengthen the flavor or help enhance. The garlic powder seemed it was poured or cap opened while seasoning to where it was doused in it or in that case, like the wings perhaps toss them in a bowl for equal coverage. Price point was bit high for the area. Place is fine for burger, don't know about other things I haven't tried. I may give place another chance but I'll stick with plain fries and burger. Don't know how the shakes are but who knows. Though if same mediocre cook, I'm.sure I...
Read moreThis was my first time back here since pre covid as I moved from Brooklyn. I don't know what happened, but this is not the same as it used to be and that's extremely unfortunate. I don't know if the same guy from before owns it but it doesn't seem like it anymore because this is nothing like what he used to run.
THE FOOD IS BASICALLY SCHOOL CAFETERIA FOOD WHICH YOU OVERPAY FOR.
Buffalo chicken sandwich - literally a frozen patty from costco probably with a spoon of sauce on top. $13
The buffalo wings? Frozen wings from costco and SAUCE ON THE SIDE! They're basically giving regular fried wings and a bowl of buffalo sauce on the side calling it buffalo wings. This is NOT what it used to be like years ago.
Oh and the sever? She had no idea about anything, my wife was asking what the different mocktails tasted like and the lady had NO IDEA. She said herself she didn't know. Then my wife said okay do you do mango mojitos? And was told yes we can do that. Ends up being given a lemonade.
Also in our order, the very first thing we said was french fries as an appetizer. Those didn't come even after we got everything else, so when we asked the waiter she said "you didn't order fries. But ill add them now"
What type of response is that? Just say you must have missed it. Don't straight up lie.
We used to love this place back in the day, with the original owner ( I forgot his name, he was a great guy and when I asked today about him they said they had no idea who the previous owner was)
I know I'm going to be hit with the automated response to this saying "Sorry you experienced this please email us". At this point, I should be refunded for the horrible service and the horrible food. What a total waste, and we will...
