I've been here a few times for drinks, and if I were to rate on that alone, this place would definitely be 3.5 - 4 stars. Nice beer selection, reasonable pint/pitcher prices, good happy hour specials, and additional discounts for Zog Sports players!
Unfortunately, we decided to eat here after our Monday volleyball game, which is where things took a slight turn south. We ordered a handful of appetizers, some half-priced wings (a Monday night special), and a few sandwiches. Here's the breakdown of our experience:
Quesadillas - They're offered with EITHER chicken, pulled pork, or veggies for a seemingly reasonable $7 - I went for the chicken. It sounds like a good deal on paper, but literally the only thing inside is a few scattered shavings of shredded chicken and a cheddar/jack cheese blend. Sour cream is drizzled across the top of the crispy shell, which looks cool, but I was more excited for the included guacamole, only to find that they ran out of avocados AFTER receiving the order. Although the quesadillas were large in surface area, they were practically two-dimensional (read: all bread), and to add insult to injury, the chicken wasn't seasoned at all...it was just plain grilled chicken.
Pulled Pork Tacos - Also only $7, but pork was dry, and borderline "fishy" tasting. My friend asked for sour cream on the side, but if you look at the pic, they clearly ignored her request...
Wings - They came out in sets of six, and because of the Monday special, they were only $3 a plate. I was happy with my honey bourbon ones (I tend to opt for the more unique flavors when available), but my friend's "hot wings" apparently weren't nearly hot enough for him.
Grilled Chicken Sandwich - My friend said she thoroughly enjoyed this sandwich, which she ordered with added bacon, although the mac & cheese side was apparently too bland for her tastes. It looked like velveeta or something pre-packaged (something they could have easily disguised with some breadcrumbs or simple garnishes).
Pulled Pork Sandwich - Apparently, our server dropped this sandwich, so a new one came out over 20 minutes after the rest of our food was served. Pulled pork was dry, so my friend asked for a BBQ sauce side to make it palatable...I guess it wasn't just the tacos then!
The Tater Tots and Fries were the best part of our meal, but as comedian Lisa Lampanelli once said "that's like being the prettiest one on The View...IT DON'T MEAN MUCH!!"
Now given all the lackluster food, I'd be compelled to give two stars, however, (1) we ate here shortly after Hurricane Sandy, so maybe the East Village / LES could need some more time to get their act together, (2) the waitress acknowledged many of the above complaints, made adjustments to our check, and offered a free round of shots, and (3), this is a BAR that happens to serve food, so this review may not be relevant to most. In light of these circumstances, and given the friendly staff, nice crowd, and comfortable space, I think three...
Read moreThis is the most sickening establishment I've ever been in. The manager takes no shame in being a racist, I've never been more disgusted after a conversation in my 27 years of living. First off to begin me and my friends came here to celebrate the launch of one of their clothing lines. When we arrived we noticed downstairs there was a lounge area, so we went downstairs to party. As we got downstairs it was pretty empty but the DJ was playing good music and the space was great.
As people began to fill the downstairs area we notice the staff began taking the tables we had to accommodate the other guest. We also noticed that the Caucasian women next to us were ordering the same shots we were ordering, however they were being charged less. Although we could see more and more we were being singled out in little ways we still decided to stay and enjoy ourselves. All of a sudden the bouncers tell my friends we have to leave, at this point we are puzzled as we are being kicked out. As we are being removed from the downstairs, I ask the bouncer why we are being kicked out. The bouncer stated that he was just following his orders from management.
At this time we are now outside demanding to speak with the manager who comes outside and decides to further disrespect us. He states we were kicked out because a woman's purse (who was sitting on the other side of the room) was stolen so we have to go. At this point we are asking him to get the woman in question because we know that woman couldn't have possibly pointed any one of us out as the culprit. The manger then refused to do so and bluntly came out and said "this is not your kind of party and you should not stay where you are not welcomed". I know my mouth dropped I could not believe that we were good enough to overcharge all night but not good enough to party with those of another race. The manager then proceeded to say he would call the cops on us (due to my friend recording him saying this, yes its on camera) and this whole time I am just standing here thinking racism is so very alive and people like him just prove it every day! Lets just say I will never return to this establishment and I do plan to call 311 and whoever else will listen as I have never been more...
Read moreSecurity and Management has to be reviewed ! Walked in this place went downstairs to listen and dance and security was just eyeing me becauseiw as the only African American. After 10 mins i was approached by the 2 African American guards asking me to walk with them upstairs to the door in a very embarrassing way possible to exit the bar because I was being surveillance for not buying a drink in 20mins. He said his boss told him to tell me to leave out all the 40+ white people who were downstairs, I was chosen smh. As we were discussing outside i asked him specific questions in a respectful and calm manner of very : -Who is your Boss ? (He refused to answer ) Where’s in the policy it says that anyone must buy a drink a within a 20mins period ? (He couldn’t answer) Since You’re the manager , what’s your name ? he didn’t want to give his name. He said that he didn’t want to ask me why I didn’t buy a drink downstairs be cause he didn’t want WHITE PEOPLE to pull out their phones and start recording the injustice.
After I pulled out a lot of cash and told him what I do for a living they started getting scared and making excuses saying “ I’m Not kicking you , you just need to buy a drink” (which I found ridiculous).
Moral of the story is : If you’re a minority , know your rights or better yet do not support these type of businesses since you have to buy drinks within 10 minutes of walking in a bar or club.
PS : Not every brother is a Brother. It said that if I would’ve made one slight move , they would’ve found a way to hurt using force for not buying a drink smh. The...
