If you find yourself in the Lower East Side of New York City, do yourself a favor and step into Super Bueno. This place isn’t just a restaurant; it’s an experience that resonates with the vibrant energy of the city and the spirit of its people.
I walked in, and wad welcomed by the owner and staff, who are nothing short of exceptional. They exude a genuine warmth and enthusiasm that instantly sets the tone for a fun yet loving atmosphere. It’s clear that they take pride in their work, treating every guest like family while maintaining a professional edge that keeps everything running smoothly. You can feel the camaraderie among the team, and it translates into an inviting vibe that makes you want to linger a little longer.
Now, let’s talk about the food and drinks. This isn’t your run-of-the-mill menu; it’s clearly made with passion that showcases bold flavors and creative dishes. Each plate is a testament to the skill and passion of the kitchen. I went for the tacos, and they were nothing short of incredible—perfectly seasoned, with fresh ingredients that burst with flavor. The drinks are equally impressive; the cocktails expertly crafted, striking the right balance between innovative yet traditionally flavorful.
What sets Super Bueno apart is the way they elevate the dining experience. It’s not just about eating; it’s about connecting—over great food, exceptional drinks, and an atmosphere that feels alive. I left feeling satisfied not just in my stomach, but in my spirit, uplifted by the energy of the place and the people.
In a city where dining can often feel rushed or impersonal, Super Bueno stands out as a beacon of what a restaurant should be—fun, loving, and genuinely enjoyable. Whether you're looking to unwind after a long day or celebrate a special occasion, this spot is a must-visit. Trust me, you...
Read moreAll in all, this place is an attempt to hijack Mexican culture to profit from it while robbing their customers of any authentic or genuine experience. This place is as authentic as store bought hummus.
If you do go, however, they really deliver on the over priced, watered down, flavorless food and excellent service where they seem annoyed with anyone’s mere presence. Interesting strategy nonetheless.
It’s also sad that when my wife was excited to try this place (she is Mexican and really was homesick), they dismissed her when she mentioned that and treated us with service that barely responded to us, didn’t speak Spanish, and asked us to leave after being there for one hour to let “other people enjoy the space”. (After making you wait 30 minutes to receive one drink). I mean if I was claiming to open a place that celebrated someone’s culture, I would go out of my way to make them feel special, knowing they would come back and use this place to show their culture to any of their friends. Doesn’t seem like that will be happening with this place.
Just because they play some classic songs like “La vaca” and know how to make some drinks that aren’t normally available in the US doesn’t make them a good bar.
Having said that, if you’ve never actually cared to dig into Mexican culture or don’t really care about quality food, ignorance is bliss, and maybe you would enjoy this place.
Also, on a side note, there is absolutely no reason to have a velvet like separator outside. This place still hasn’t decided if they are a bad restaurant or a bad bar, and this with their bouncer’s attitude makes them seem like a dodgy club that 18 year olds...
Read moreWhen is something better than good? When it's Superbeno. This spot in the lower east side of Manhattan is the definition of a place to be. Fantastic food, well thought out, delicious drinks, and an overall happy atmosphere. The people working there all seemed to enjoy what they were doing.
From the person who greeted me at the door, the people making drinks, waiters, service people, everyone was laughing and interacting. I wanna go back just to hang out with them. Here's what I had:
Roasted Corn Sour: Full disclosure, I may or may not have planned my entire trip to taste this cocktail. So how was it, you ask? Of course, it was delicious, but it didn't taste like what I thought it would. I was expecting a more of a "corny nutty flavor." The flavor was that of a traditional sour with a roasted note. It's definitely an interesting cocktail to try.
Salted Plum and Tamarind Milk Punch: If you have a milk punch on you're menu I'm going to try it. This one combines some non-traditional flavors. Like most milk punches, it's smooth, but Tamarind adds a savory note to the drink. Thankfully, for everyone, there's a doughnut 🍩 you can also order that has the same flavors.
Adobada Bam Bam: Mezcal, pineapple 🍍, adobada falernum, lemon, pineapple salt. It's a little spicy and plenty robust this pretty close to the tiki drink you want to order but didn't know existed. Try it. The calories don't count.
Honorable Mentions: Vodka Y Soda. It's not a vodka soda despite the name. Way more intricate with guava and pasilla. Green Mango Martini 🥭. A tequila interpretation of a martini with mango notes and an earth but...
