Paraiso Colombiano — Restaurant in New York

I visited Paraiso Colombiano yesterday with my wife and we enjoyed our stay. The food was very good and service was excellent. I love it when I walk into a restaurant and spy a smiling Colombian lady in the kitchen, preparing food as if it were for her own family.

We shared a refajo, which is Colombiana soda mixed with beer. It was not on the menu to my knowledge but the waiter mixed it for us.

I ordered cazuela and my wife a bandeja paisa. We also ordered some empanadas, as well as an additional bandeja paisa and empanadas to bring home to share. The pique was very good, the shells of the empanadas were perfect and the filling was tastefully seasoned.

My cazuela continued to boil for about 2 minutes after it was served. Not an issue at all for me, but others may not want it THAT hot. I enjoyed it although a couple of the pieces of seafood were a little bit overcooked. Most of it was perfect though, and the flavor was awesome.

My wife's bandeja was perfect, and she put away the majority of it quite quickly.

The waiter was very polite and attended us quickly. Specials were recited straight away and all was as it should be. Overall we had a great lunch and the price was very good considering the size of the portions. The restaurant is very clean and tidy, both inside and out, and it had that small family business feel that I like.

Our server, Anyie and Caroline, was attentive, knowledgeable, and made excellent recommendations. The menu offered a diverse range of options, but we opted for the entraña with camarones and salmon con camorones, both of which were cooked to perfection.

The flavors were bold, the presentation was stunning, and the portion sizes were generous. But what truly impressed me was the attention to detail and the care that clearly went into preparing each dish.

The service was top-notch, with friendly and efficient staff ensuring that our glasses were always full and our plates were never empty.

Customer service needs improvement. I called to check on my delivery because it was 30 minutes delayed, and the lady on the phone told me we needed to wait. I then received a notification from the app stating that my order had been delivered, but when I checked, it had not arrived. I called the restaurant again, and the person who answered the phone yelled at me.

I explained that my order was not delivered, even though the app indicated it was, but she simply said there was nothing she could do, mentioned that there was a lot of traffic, and that her coworker had changed the status of the delivery. She said she would ask her why they changed it. The reason I called was to clarify, as sometimes delivery personnel make mistakes or get lost. I was not trying to be a nuisance about the one-hour delay.

They need to improve their customer service and listen to what the customer is trying to explain instead of yelling over the phone. The delivery person was respectful, but they need to coordinate deliveries better or consider hiring a second delivery person during busy rush hours. Additionally, they should not change the status of deliveries just to make it seem like they are on time when they are actually...
