Update: 1.5yrs later and I bring everyone here :) the new menu is so cute and everything is amazing! Yes service can be a little slow but itās the owners themselves at our parentsā age running the whole show, cooking and waiting tables and answering calls and packing deliveries. Theyāre working their butts off so chill out and have some patience if you go!
Original review: Pasteur pho is my new ride or die. Never had a broth so delicious in my entire LIFE. Yes itās slightly oily but I couldnāt give a hoot because DANG Iāve been searching my whole life for a bowl of pho this good. The restaurant works so hard on the broth and it shows. Donāt you dare touch the hoisin or chili sauce before you get a taste of this beautiful broth on its own. My Viet friends agreed Pasteur pho is the real deal.
The owners are SOOOOO nice and many of the recipes are straight from the family. Pasteur doesnāt get as much traffic as other Viet spots right next door but itās got so much history (first and oldest viet restaurant in Manhattan Chinatown!) and deserves your immediate attention, COVID has hit them pretty hard and they need your love ā¤ļøā¤ļøā¤ļø spring rolls delicious too and theyāre known for their shaken beef stir-fry. Credit cards accepted and very spacious outdoor dining setup. You wonāt...
Read moreI've been trying to test the water of other Vietnamese restaurants within the Chinatown boders. Up to bat Pho Pasteur. It takes its name via a famous street in Ho Chi Minh City. The friendly and simple décor is reminiscent of other food establishments...table, chairs, chopsticks and spoon in the tray has with the rest of the necessary condiments. Gently Viet music playing in the background and the friendly Vietnamese owner took our order. My friend ordered the Bo Kho and I did the Pho Dac biet and goi cuon to start.
The Bo Kho which is similar to a beef stew had nice flavors. It needed a bit more lemongrass and was a bit on a sweeter side for me. This goes for the pho broth. While good it wasn't the 'best'. It lacked a bit more anise and too was a bit on the sweeter than I tend to like it. Look at the patrons of this is mainly on Asian I can see why the broth is slightly sweeter and less anise. The noodles were fresh and the meat was decent. I would like to come back to try other dishes but based the couple dishes while it is certainly a decent bowl of pho, my usual pho haunt still on top...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe visited this restaurant recently and, unfortunately, had a very disappointing experience. The food was overpriced, even by New York standards, and the service left a lot to be desired. When my meal arrived, the waiter asked if Iād like a small bowl of rice on the side. I specifically asked if there would be an additional charge, and she assured me there wouldnāt be. However, when the check came, I was charged for it.
After we paid in cash and left a tip, the man at the front of the restaurant stopped us before we could leave. He claimed our tip was insufficient and went so far as to block the door. My friend and I, both young women, felt extremely uncomfortable and unsafe. Thankfully, we managed to slip out, but it was a distressing experience.
The food itself was average, but the service and atmosphere were absolutely unacceptable. Judging by a review left 7 years ago, this isnāt the first time they tried keeping someone hostage so that they would pay more. There are countless excellent dining options in NYC where youāll be treated with respect. I would not recommend this...
