I tell you that I can smell this place an avenue away! When I walked on the Broadway intersection toward the Amsterdam, I spotted the luring hints of the tomato, the wheat, and fragrance of wood fired dough.
Straightly came to eat pizzas, pretty nice addition to the neighborhood so I don’t have to go all the way downtown. Us four gals ordered 4 difference pizzas. The lunch specials are 15 usd per pizza, and the options include some pizza rosse and some bianche, but not any specials.
They have a wood-fired stone oven, resembled the traditional pizza cooking technique in Naple. You can watch the pizzeria knead and stretch the dough and cook it in action. All pizzas are 12 inches and each are sliced into 4 pieces. That means, 4 pizzas = 16 slices spilled between us 4.
For all the pizzas, the dough is light and stretchy, very airy with lots of bubbles when you open the dough. The chars on the edges are the evidence of usage of the wood-fired oven. And all pizzas came within 10 minutes of ordering! Quick and delicious!
The Tartufata: this one is very very filling. Very umami and truffley. Lots of prosciutto and heavy on truffle cream and truffle oil. One bite brings me out of starvation and spikes my fullness from 0% to 80% (I have been fasting for 20hrs before this).
Pizza Burrata: surprisingly light pizza. The burrata is light and somehow not so liquidy. Majority of the cheese holded the shape with a bit splurging of the stracciatella mixed with arugula. If I had this first, I think I can eat the whole pizza. But the truffle one was so filling lol.
Melanzane E Salsicce: the pizza with sausage and fried eggplant. This one tasted most familiar to me in terms of the flavor, as the sausage being the major note player. The fried eggplant on top of the pizza doesn’t resemble eggplant but rather grounded meat, however, I definitely taste eggplant once I bite into it: mushy, eggplanty, and meaty at the same time.
Pizza Marguerita: the only non-special one which we got at the lunch special rate. It is a classic. I didn’t have stomach for the 4th slice yet my friend who tasted it said it is light, tomatoy, and savory. The saltiness of the dough combined well with the acidity of the tomato sauce, which interplayed with the creaminess of the mozzarella. Surely a classic not to be missed if you are torn choosing between novelty flavors.
We ended up having 4 slices to go, and we were very very satisfied with the quality of the food. Though eating so much carb makes me sleepy but it is Friday so who cares!
And lastly, their complimentary bread and olive oil is GREAT! Quote on myself: the bread tasted like a mix between a baguette and a bagel, so much air holes with great stretchness for a chew. And the olive oil tasted amazing: definitely extra...
Read moreAs a UWS resident, I have really been looking forward to their opening, and unfortunately, disappointed with our dinner. We arrived at 9:10pm and were seated without any comments about the time. The restaurant was pretty full. Once we sat, pretty quickly and throughout the dinner, the waiters made us very uncomfortable - it was clear that they wanted us to do everything quickly and get out. When they came to take our order shortly after we sat they told us that the kitchen closes in 5min. They also told us that we need to already choose our deserts now, together with the main course order (we obviously didn’t get them together but it’s not fun to need to decide so early what and how much desert we want). They kept looking at us to see if we’re finishing our food. They gave us the bill before we asked for it and immediately after we finished the desert. We were there for like 40 min all together and hurried up because of the strong feeling we got with regard to them wanting us to finish quickly. Not the outing we were hoping for. Next time - either dont sit people at their hour or do so without any pressure by your staff. At the very least inform the party that the dinner will need to be quick. The music was a bit too loud in our opinion. It was a weekday evening in the UWS, I don’t think most people there came with a club mindset. It was difficult to talk as a group of 4 around the table. In terms of the food, it was pretty good but not great. The pizzas were really good. They came out in like 5 min so it makes me wonder how they bake them but they were good so I cant complain. The chicken with mushrooms was also really good. The arugula salad was mediocre, tomatoes weren’t very ripe. Tiramisu was...
Read moreI have been coming to Song e Napule for years now. By myself and with my family and I’ve been to all locations. Although their meals are delicious, the vibes are always great, the employees are always kind and helpful, and their prices meet the quality criteria. I truly dislike the management.. There’s an italian manager that’s slightly tall with dark slid back hair you will notice him by his arrogance and his little princess attitude. This man has made me and my family/friends stop coming here, I agree with other reviews, the manager is somewhat rude and apathetic as if he owns the place and I know he does not own the place because I’ve seen the owner so he looks ridiculous acting the way he does. He clearly acts superior to clients and employees and it’s disgusting and immature for a grown a*s man. My family and I would come here often and we all speak Italian, English, and Spanish and the times we came here regardless of the language we spoke, he treated us like if he was doing us a favor when we asked a question or tried to make small talk with him and that does ruin the experience. This is a GREAT restaurant but having poor/rude management will not create a healthy atmosphere and instead will drive away loyal customers. managing a successful restaurant means having employees and managers that meet that criteria as well. I would definitely come back here if the manager humbled himself a little bit and if someone reminded him that he needs to treat his employees and customers with more kindness, it doesn’t cost him anything, maybe even a little smile and some interaction with the customers won’t hurt him...
