EDIT: I am repeatedly reminded of this shopkeeper's egregious behavior whenever someone reacts to my review below. I have to say, judging by the influx of positive reviews in the past month, the owner clearly asked her friends to leave 5-star reviews.
ORIGINAL POST: I was flabbergasted by the shop owner’s behavior. First, we walked into the store with coffee and were told to wait outside — she said “there’s a sign that says no drinks inside” on the door. The sign in question was tiny — maybe the size of a business card. Once we finished our coffees, outside, we came back in and after less than a minute of looking at the inventory, she asked if we brought cooked food into the store, to which we said no. She then asked if we went to Barney Greengrass (a popular restaurant where most of her customers probably come from) and she went on to complain that the restaurant has no ventilation and everyone who comes into her shop from there smells bad. She brought this up multiples times in our short visit to the store. It was incredibly uncomfortable and passive aggressive. As others have said, there is no visible “Do Not Touch” sign and yet she scolded us for touching and proceeded to awkwardly lift everything we looked at to our faces. We wanted to buy a few items but we felt so uncomfortable that we decided to instead leave within...
Read moreI registered for my wedding with them because of their beautiful Judaica. My friend bought me a beautiful Michael Aram Tzedekah box that arrived to me broken. I emailed them instantly and told them (Rhonda) that I would actually be interested in switching the item and I’ll return the broken item to them and pay the difference if possible. She told me no problem but the item I wanted was out of stock (even though on the website it showed it was in stock). I emailed back and forth with Rhonda for over a year with her telling me she would let me know and send an invoice when it was back in stock. She never did. I would check the website and see it showed in stock and reply to her for updates. She seldom replied and when she did it was her telling me the item I wanted was still out of stock and I couldn’t return the item that she sent broken to me because it was too late. Mind you, it’s now June 2025 and I got married in January 2024. Still have not heard from her. They have TERRIBLE customer service. I have a broken wedding gift just sitting in my storage that I’ve had since January 2024 taking up room. I hate to tarnish a Jewish businesses reputation but this...
Read moreThe store is undeniably cute— I think one of the loveliest spots on the Upper West Side—but my experience with the woman who came out ofthe door (likely the owner) was surprisingly off-putting. I was standing outside wanting to go in with an iced latte, about a third finished, when she came out and told me I couldn’t enter with it. The "no drinks" sign was tiny—I hadn’t seen it. I offered to leave my cup on the floor, but she refused, citing past breakages, and asked me to come back after I finished my drink. What really rubbed me the wrong way was her tone. She said, “You’re just going to look and browse, right? Because usually people with coffee in their hands do that.” The fact that she made that judgment says a lot. You’re a local business—and we’re here to support places like this—but if you treat potential customers that way, no one’s going to want to. It’s a shame, because I genuinely wanted to check out the store. But after that interaction, I won’t be going back. After reading the reviews above, it seems like she gets some strange satisfaction from creating conflict and asserting control, rather than actually running a...
