Solid Breakfast, Disappointing Dinner — A Mixed Experience at Perrine
I dined at Perrine, located in The Pierre Hotel, four times during my recent stay in New York City—once for dinner on my birthday and three times for breakfast. Overall, I would give the experience a solid four stars, with breakfast significantly outshining dinner.
Let’s start with the birthday dinner, which unfortunately left a lot to be desired. I had noted in advance that it was my birthday, and while the staff acknowledged it with a quick “Happy Birthday,” there was no extra gesture—no complimentary dessert, no celebratory touch, not even particularly attentive service. My water glass sat empty for long stretches, and I was seated near the back door, which repeatedly slammed throughout the meal, creating a disruptive dining experience. It was disappointing, especially for a birthday dinner at a restaurant in a five-star hotel. Maybe it was an off night, but the overall feel was more three-star than luxury.
However, the breakfast service was a completely different story—and a bright spot in my stay. I had a generous $120 breakfast credit per day, and I managed to use every penny of the $360 total over three days. The American breakfast is priced at $48, and extras like avocado toast ($33) and sides added up quickly. If I had been paying out-of-pocket, I honestly might have skipped breakfast entirely—the pricing is steep. But with the credit, it was convenient and relaxing, and each morning the service was genuinely five-star. The servers were warm, attentive, and professional across the board.
A side note: I later learned that I was only supposed to receive $60 per day as a solo guest, but because an employee had previously told me it was $120, the hotel graciously honored the full credit. That gesture definitely left a positive impression.
There is a mandatory 18% gratuity for breakfast.
In summary: Breakfast at Perrine is polished and pleasant if you’re not watching your budget too closely. Dinner, at least in my experience, fell far short of expectations—especially for a special occasion. I’d return for the convenience of breakfast, but I’d think twice about dining here again for dinner unless I hear the experience...
Read moreTried this place for Brunch for the first time. I booked online through Resy and noted that it was a special event, my birthday. The hostess didn't even acknowledge the special occasion. NO big deal...they looked really busy and understaffed.
Next, after being seated for 15 minutes we had to ask for a waiter to please come around and take our drink order. When he came he asked to also take our food order. So I ordered a caesar salad for starter and a Pierre burger for my main course.
20 minutes later ALL my found arrives together...salad and burger.
Never once did the waiter ask is we needed anything. He never even visited our table. We had to get up to ask for a refill of our water.
When it came to desert, same deal. No waiter to be found.
The food was good, which was the only redeeming factor of Perrine.
However, the entire experience was a let down. We usually have lunch at the Astor Room in the St Regis and the Peninsula Hotel..both only a few blocks away from the Pierre Hotel's Perrine restaurant. Perrine doesn't even come close to the level of service the other 2 restaurants offer.
Waiters (5 of them) would just gather around the point of sale system chit chatting not even looking at their tables. In fact, other guests had to also get up to get the attention of waiters.
I feel the Perrine in the Pierre Hotel, is resting on their laurels and isn't really trying. Seems like the staff just doesn't care and/or is understaffed.

Read moreI visited Perrine restaurant on may 5 of 2025 with some friends, and overall the food was excellent. We ordered a variety of dishes including salmon, steak, oysters, and tuna everything was delicious and well-prepared.
Our server, a Hispanic woman, if I’m not mistaken, she was Dominican provided outstanding service. She was kind, friendly, and very attentive, making me feel welcomed and comfortable. Thanks to her, I had a pleasant experience, and she truly made a difference in our visit.
However, I did have a negative experience that I feel is important to mention. When I arrived, there was an older man who, according to what he said, is Italian possibly a waiter or the manager, who made me feel extremely uncomfortable. As he was serving water to my friend, who was already seated, he stared at me in a way that felt intense and judgmental. He looked at me with what seemed like disapproval, almost as if my presence bothered him. I even began to feel a bit of prejudice or hostility from him, and it made me very uneasy. My friend even asked why he gave us such an uncomfortable look it was noticeable and unpleasant.
Because of that experience with him, I would hesitate to return to this restaurant. Great food and excellent service from our waitress, but unfortunately overshadowed by that...
