Dillon's has been the preferred afterwork watering hole and stomping grounds for CUNY grad students for more than a decade, and has a special significance to any grad student or office worker in the neighborhood. The bartenders, especially Jackie, are amazingly friendly and warm people, and the drinks are priced and poured well. It's a great spot in the neighborhood to catch a football (soccer) match, or really any sport event. The bar is dark and moody and comforting when the crowd is thin. Owing to the location in midtown and the general lack of decent options in the area, Dillon's can get uncomfortably crowded even on weekday evenings, so if you want a quiet drink, best to go earlier in the afternoon, unless Newcastle have a weekday match. It's the home base for Newcastle United FC's New York supporters club, so be mindful that there is the potential to find a barroom full of fans known for their rowdiness when supporting their club -you're on their turf here.
That said, Dillon's is a comfortable spot ideal for a draft beer or simple classic cocktail, and a perfect place to catch a game in a low-key setting or afterwork drinks. Don't expect anything but a classic midtown Irish bar, and order your drinks accordingly, and have a chat with the gems of the people that...
Read moreKatie is a super nice bartender and when I asked her for drink recommendations she gave me some lovely information. Definitely would come here again. Great vibes all around. I really appreciate the atmosphere and would definitely come again and would recommend my own family to come here and enjoy their top shelf products. They even have Midori liquor, which is a lovely addition to any fruit based drink. Im so glad that they had it available. They have a very comfortable place to hang out with friends or even by your self. You always feel at home. It’s a great place if your wandering away from Times Square and need a nice drink on your way to the hotel. It’s completely Irish owned which is super cool. Everything that they offer binds together to give it’s patrons the best of the best. As someone that lives in the Bronx but works in Manhattan I can say that it’s a lovely place to stop at if you’re coming off work or if you’re visiting. Definitely check this place out. If you have questions about what to order or drink at local places they can point you in the right direction. Superb place that I can recommend family and...
Read moreSooo, I go here for a quick drink around 3am on a Sunday. I was in the area. They have a board outside advertising $6 Yuenling. Apparently the special for the month. I get to the bar and wait patiently for the barmaid to get to me. When she does, I ask her if there are any specials besides the $6 beer. She says Jameson shots are $4. GREAT!! I ask for 2 Jameson shots and a Yuenling (Come to find out her name was Katie, and she was DEFINITELY pretty damn drunk). I give her a $20 and wait patiently for my change, which didn't come. After about 2 minutes I ask her don't you have change for me? She says, oh I thought it was a tip, and gives me back $2. I say, a $6 tip for a $14 total? She says, oh no, it was $16. That the beer was $8. I said nothing else. But I do ask the next WHITE guy I see buy a Yuenling how much it costs and he tells me $6. Hmph. I left after that. You be the judge of what took place. But "I" will not be patronizing...
