The majority of reviews are right on target with this wonderful Midtown Manhattan hotel. It's a beautifully restored, historic hotel (if I remember correctly, the hotel was built in 1902) with just the right amount of modern touches (updated heating and air with individual, digital thermostats in each room). The Gregorian is definitely a "boutique" hotel and is simply charming with its small, inviting lobby, gleaming hardwood floors and an incredibly friendly, professional and accommodating staff who strive to ensure your visit surpasses all your expectations, which it did. Every staff member, from the doorman to the front desk to housekeeping, were all especially friendly, always genuinely greeting you whenever you encountered them in the hall, lobby, entrance, etc.||The rooms are handsomely appointed with comfortable bed and linens, a bathroom with all the necessary fixtures -- toilet, sink, tub and shower with an updated showerhead that gave just the right amount of pressure, and the hot water stayed hot! The rest of the room included a large flatscreen tv, dresser drawers, a mini fridge, ice bucket (an ice machine is located between the third and fourth floors -- I was surprised considering the age of the hotel!), ample closet space that included an iron and ironing board, plenty of hangers (suit and pant), in-room safe, and two comfortable robes. Finally, the room boasted plenty of electrical outlets as well as two USB ports on the nightstand for cell phone charging. Our room did not have much of a view (our room faced an alleyway), which we did not mind, as we found it very quiet (and who wants to stay in their room all day when you're visiting the greatest city in the world -- am I right?). However, that being said, many rooms do have a view facing West 35th Street and some rooms even have a view of the Empire State Building.||The Gregorian is ideally located in Midtown on West 35th Street, within walking distance to Penn Station (we walked luggage in-hand, and it took less than 10 minutes), dining, shopping, Broadway and Off-Broadway theaters, Times Square, and there is a subway entrance less than half a block from the hotel. A perfect location, in my opinion.||The Gregorian is currently changing out their original elevators (one at a time), so you just have to be patient when waiting for an elevator (we never found the wait to be more than four minutes or so). About the only time we used the elevator was when we had our luggage, otherwise we took the stairs (unless the elevator was already in the lobby). From what I understand, they are also renovating their kitchen area, so if you would like to have a cup of coffee, there are plenty of coffee options within a short walking distance from the hotel.||I wholeheartedly recommend this charming, historic, beautiful, boutique hotel and I would like to thank the entire amazing staff for the unforgettable and supremely satisfying stay we had in late February 2024. I have now found my "home away from home" whenever I...
Read moreThe subway entrance is at the end of the street. The hotel is located in walking distance to Times Square and Madison Ave. It is directly behind the Empire State building. We stayed in room 1009. It is on the tenth floor and the room has three large windows. Since the Empire State building is 102 floors. I had to look up from the floor to see the top of the Empire State building. The elevator was slow. It is also a small elevator. The stairs are narrow marble stairs. I was told at check-in I could have a second floor room because of the elevator. I asked about a room with the view of the Empire State building. I was told it was a partial view. I don't regret my choices. Once I came in from walking around the city. I couldn't wait on the elevator to use the restroom. There was a bathroom down the stairs past the check-in desk. There wasn't much city noise in our room. There was light coming in from where the window frame and the blinds didn't meet. If you like a completely dark room, pack an eye mask. I have a scarf I tied around my eyes. The room was clean. The bed was soft. There was an extra blanket in the closet. There were 2 robes in the closet. Some of the pillows were bird feather down pillows. If I know this fact ahead of time I request cotton pillows. There was a cotton pillow in the mix. I just moved the bird feather pillows away from me. There were bottled waters in the room, a small fridge and the ice machine was close. A door closed the area off to the elevator and stair traffic. I heard no noise from the other rooms. The TV allowed me to cast from my phone. The remote was clean and had a button for YouTube. The bathroom was clean. The showerhead was a rainfall type. In the morning, the water was hot by afternoon, it was lukewarm at best. The bathroom had white subway tiles and mosaic black and white floors. There is a hairdryer in the drawer under the sink. The shampoo was clear like a clarifying shampoo. It was rough on my hair and the conditioner wasn't much help. Beckman 1802 supplied the bath products. I won't be buying any for home. The shower gel and the hand soap were good. The goats milk location was a no for me. They were all in the pumps in a holder in the shower. I love that much more than little bottles to mess with in the shower. The hotel staff were friendly. I would stay again with a cotton pillow request and my own shampoo and...
Read moreDear Gregorian Hotel Team,
I hope this message finds you well. I wanted to provide some feedback regarding my recent stay at your hotel, which I booked through Airbnb. I was informed ahead of time that I would be charged for the destination fee, taxes, and a deposit, which I had no issue with. However, I did call in advance to ensure that my stay would be as expected, particularly since it was my first time booking a hotel through Airbnb. As I enjoy staying at boutique hotels and using their amenities, I asked specific questions and was assured that the restaurant and bar would be open during the weekend of my arrival.
Unfortunately, upon my arrival, I found out that the restaurant would not be opening, and there was construction happening throughout my stay. The construction caused long elevator wait times, with only one elevator available at times, and it impacted the content I had planned to create during my visit. If I had been made aware of this in advance, I would have chosen to visit on a different date.
Regarding the room itself, it was decently clean, though I did notice stains on the bedsheet. I removed the top duvet, as I understand these things can sometimes happen. On a positive note, the customer service was great, and I truly believe that once construction is completed, the Gregorian will be a wonderful place to stay. I would love to return to experience the hotel in its full glory.
My main concern, however, relates to the billing. My card was overcharged twice for the same amount. After my credit card provider notified me, I immediately contacted the hotel and spoke with Milady, who assured me that I would receive an itemized receipt of the charges I was responsible for (deposit, destination fee, and taxes) along with a voided receipt for the double charge. I provided my email address and she confirmed it with me, but it has now been 7 days without any communication or proof, which I need to provide to my credit card company.
Could you kindly look into this matter and provide the necessary documentation as soon as possible? I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you for your attention to this matter, and I look forward to visiting again once the construction is completed.
