--Inconspicuously spoiled food - gave me a bug and diarrhea--
I wasn't going to do this but I sincerely feel a sense of responsibility to for anyone who might consider coming here in the future. For the first and last time I ate here August 2 2022 and had a sandwich with pita bread, hummus, french fries and salad ingredients. (as well as a Lemonade - who knows maybe that was a factor too) Nothing tasted wrong, however, today I am sick with a stomach bug, four bouts of diarrhea. I am certain it's because of the food from here because I only eat out occasionally, take 48 hours to digest and had what I usually eat from home yesterday.
This is really never excusable. I've eaten out in NYC over the last 7 years at numerous places, usually this kind of food (Mediterranean, Pita, Falafel etc.) and have never had an issue. This kind of thing just never happens IF the restaurant in question properly ensures sanitation, that all food is properly preserved and fresh, and if it does, it means the people who run it and work there are careless and are cutting corners for the sake of time and money. I wasn't going to do this but I must leave a merciless 1 star review. It's worth it if even one person reads this and avoids the same fate as me. It's awful that people have their health compromised like this.
I can't even be anonymous in this review because Google makes it impossible to make multiple accounts and the place doesn't take card, cash or Venmo only. So be it. You'd think a small humble cash only place may have cheaper prices but $8 for a sandwich is standard even at more formal places that make the same food and are similar in Brooklyn, Manhattan or Queens. You pay the same price for risky food that doesn't take...
Read moreLittle corner restaurant in Northeast Williamsburg serving Middle Eastern fast food. My brother and I came here based on the glowing reviews it got from Yelpers, and it did not disappoint. My brother said his Chicken Kabob was really good. Well-seasoned, not dry, and very tasty with the additional fixings they add to the pita. My Kufta Kabob was also delicious. According to the guy behind the counter, it is a combination of ground beef and lamb. I'm not a fan of lamb because it often tastes gamey to me, but the Kufta Kabob was good and didn't taste gamey at all. I think the only criticism I have is that I would like more veggies in the pita with my Kufta Kabob, and I'll certainly ask for that the next time I go back.
Service is very friendly and they aim to please. The guy who took our order asked us if we liked the food, and I was happy to say that we did.
They are a cash-only business, and their tiny restroom is not really meant for customers, but they allowed my brother and I to use it. It's best to use the restroom elsewhere, if possible, as it is not decoratively finished and quite tight to...
Read moreLocals swear by this place (I live down the street) and I’ve tried it at least 5 or 6 times in the last 3 years (always when I’m hungry and can’t bother to find something else), but it’s honestly just not good. And I’ve gotten sick from the food at least once.
I’ve always felt the veggies didn’t look or taste fresh, the pita bread is dry, and the shawarma just doesn’t do it for me. The falafel I’ve had was overcooked but that might have been a one-time thing because I know others who like them.
I honestly don’t understand all the local love for the place. The owner is very nice and I wish it was better, but there are just much better options for middle eastern not too much further away. Wish it was better,...
