I never leave negative reviews but I can't recommend this place because my friend had a racist encounter last night with the owner/bartender. I was there last night for a birthday celebration with a good friend. I am a white woman and my friend is a black man. We ordered our first round of gin and tonics with Hendricks and everything was fine. When he went back to order his second gin and tonic, the owner of the bar and bartender used the wrong gin. My friend pointed that out to him and the owner got very upset and rude with my friend and then asked his security guard to escort my friend out. Everything about this reaction was completely out of proportion and from an outside observer, looked distinctly racist. To ask for the correct gin is a very normal request and not something to overreact towards. Then to ask a security guard to escort my friend out as if he was a risk and danger to others was, again, a total overreaction (to put things nicely). I tried to speak to the security man escorting him out, but he just ignored me until my friend was outside. I'm sure that, if I as a white woman had asked the owner of the bar to change my gin, he would have been irritated, but done it. And I would never have been escorted out. Later when people spoke with the owner, he admitted he overreacted and that my friend could come back inside. My friend obviously didn't want to. The owner even waived the 2k spending minimum for the birthday, another clear admission that what he had done was wrong. At a minimum, the owner should have gone outside and personally apologized to my friend, but he didn't do that. I will never be back...
Read moreI had a racist encounter at this bar, which is still quite shocking to me still as I type this. I was attending a grad party and had tried to order an espresso martini. The bartender informs me - a little snidely - that they don’t serve that. I asked for a gin and tonic instead (specifically Hendricks) I go back for a second drink and ask for the same thing. He pours a brand I am not familiar with (not Hendricks) and while doing so I try to get his attention that I want Hendricks instead. He supposedly doesn’t hear me and when I tell him after the fact he gets visibly upset and starts screaming at me. It was a very weird overreaction to what is a normal demand to a bar request. I then tell him he does not get to speak to me in that manner and tone and he IMMEDIATELY runs to the door, gets the security personnel and asks that I be escorted out. The escalation from a request to change a drink to calling for a show of force was disconcerting and startling to say the least. I have buried the lead here but I am Black. A white friend pointed out that were it her that made the same request, the outcome would have been completely different. And it is true. His reaction was completely egregious. Even if race wasn’t an issue, such a reaction would still be cause for concern. I would not recommend anyone to go to this...
Read moreI was the first of three patrons at the bar waiting to order a drink, but the last one to be served. When it was my turn to order, I asked for a seltzer. He put ice in a cup. I then asked for no ice and apologized, and then he said “you should have told me that beforehand”, and theatrically threw it across to the furthest ice tray. I’m normally not a confrontational person, but given his attitude, I felt it was warranted to point out that I was skipped twice among the three people waiting to be served, which provoked him to kick me out of the bar. This was after I paid to see a comedy show there, which I did enjoy at the time. Three of my friends left with me, and the four of us agreed that we will not patronize this place again, given the awful service. Also worth mentioning, this bartender was incredibly slow at his job. This was an empty bar, but it took a long time for him to...
