They charge $0.50 for gravy. Unheard of.
On a recent trip to New York my cousin (a native new yorker and jamaican) took me to this spot.
We literally went to this resturant 3 times in the span of 24 hours ( like I said, the food is really good.)
First trip, off the late nite, on a Saturday.
We ordered 3 small food since we were skeptical. Fried Chicken rice and peas Curry chicken rice and peas Brown stew chicken white rice
Side of Mac and cheese ( you can pass)
Everything was amazing. However, we waited 35 minutes for our food.
Let me also mention. The food is already prepared and displayed at this restaurant, it is not made to order. So they literally just have to share your food.
Second trip was the same night... early Sunday morning, after the after party. Maybe 5 am ish.
We placed 5 orders of ackee and salt fish About 20 fried dumplin 1 large and 1 small peanut porridge 1 small fried chicken
Waited about 45 minutes.
The third trip was the worst. Left with a refund and no food.
Sunday dinner approximately 7:30 pm
We ordered
Medium brown stew chicken white rice. Small curry chicken white rice. Small fried chicken rice and peas.
Waited for about 15 minutes. During this time, the order preparers began to mention the rice wouldn't be ready for another 20 minutes.
When I placed my order I was not advised the rice and peas was not ready.
At that point I had to go, I didn't have another 45 minutes to waste.
I believe it goes without saying, you can't be a 24 hour jamaican resturant that runs out of rice and...

For health reasons she kindly requested less gravy on the rice than normal and the young lady at the cashier assured her that they would honor this request. She instructed my mom to let the guy sharing the food know who was right next to her so he already heard. All good. Upon waiting for a while we saw that he was finally sharing her serving when he began pouring the gravy all over the riceā¦we are all humans maybe he forgot which is completely understandable, my mom softly said āexcuse me sir, but thatās a little bit too much gravy for meā¦ā Now, Iām not sure what transpired with him internally but he started yelling expletives on the top of his lungs we were so confused, embarrassed and frankly upset with this type of response over a simple request. He continues cursing expletives saying that he didnāt put no gravy on the rice⦠this was the epitome of Horrible Customer Service! and we are truly disappointed in the service we receivedā¦we lost our appetite and left the restaurant without being able to get a refund that night. However they are over priced and they charge for gravy over the side dishes, also they have a seafood lunch n dinner section on the menu that states $15 & up, (what you mean and up.. what determines it to go beyond $15)..if you want to substitute the rice and peas for Mac and cheese itās like an additional $4 plus tax. Iāve tried the shrimp one time and they were butterflied, well seasoned and crunchy, the second time around I was disgusted. Seafood should be made to order unless you serve buffet style. These shrimps were the texture of a balloon and they were soggy and spicy with no flavor. Completely turned me off. They are not consistent and they will not get my money any longer. Not to mention how unpleasant the girl at the register is, if youāre big on customer service and being treated with some appreciation for even stepping foot inside of an establishment, this place will immediately turn you off.
