We stopped by just for cocktails and had a decidedly upsetting experience. Let me preface that this review is really about a particular bartender who worked here that evening (6/23/2018), and not the establishment itself. Me and my girlfriend ordered two cocktails, the Mezcal Old Fashioned for me (which tasted perfectly fine), and The Escobar for her. We both thought her drink tasted awful, like beyond awful. It tasted honestly like it had been mixed with some vomit in it. I just had a taste of it and I have flashbacks to how awful the taste was in my mouth even the next day. I'm looking back at their menu and maybe their mango puree somehow went bad...? But it was TERRIBLE. I went back up to ask for another drink. I asked for the Ginger Caipirinha, thinking it was a safe bet. Bartender didn't look too pleased, but obliged. The drink came back kind of thick and viscous, with some thick bubbles in it (you can use your imagination here) which made me really suspicious, since I chose the Capirinha because it is usually made with only clear liquids and no purees. That drink tasted really, really bad too, like intentionally bad... I've been thinking about just how upsetting this whole experience was and how that bartender seriously may have been spiking drinks with God knows what in those squeeze bottles. It really put a damper on our whole evening, and was one of the more upsetting experiences I've had in a while. If I were the owner I would start asking questions ... it's a shame because the establishment itself looked like a really great place that I would...
Read moreWe were searching for a reasonably priced place to grab dinner before a show at Brooklyn Steel and this popped up. We are soooo glad it did. Our group of 6 was able to call up and earmark a table in the back lounge for dinner, thanks to one of the owners Paul personally assisting us both before and during our visit. He even relocated us when he noticed one of our attendees was very tall, and he had a higher table available.
The food was amazing and fairly affordable for a variety of budgets. You can get a nice sized entree for less than $20. We enjoyed the pastas, meat and cheeze platter, and several of the sides. Everything was done simply and deliciously. The service was also quite top notch throughout the meal, with attentive server and busser.
This place is highly recommended for a festive/laid back gathering. If you're looking for a formal atmosphere, look elsewhere. If you're looking for a great place to bring a diverse group of people together with diverse budgets, some who want to indulge and some who are cost conscious, this might be just the right place for your group. Was a true delight. Thanks again...
Read moreI resigned myself to a cozy evening inside, when the sun came out and my girlfriend called to invite me out for dinner. We came here because it's one of her favorite spots in the neighborhood, and she couldn't believe that I had never come before. We sat outside in the beautiful, plant filled cafe and soaked in the beautiful evening, and scenery! There are so many cool knicknacks to look at among the plants and flowers, and a cool assortment of people also enjoying dinner and drinks. We shared a bottle of the special white wine that the server told us about, and switched plates midway through our dinner, so we could both enjoy the handmade pasta(meat lasagna that was PERFECT) and the red snapper(lightly seasoned and perfectly cooked). As if my impromptu night out couldn't get any better, our server mentioned that there was live music about to start in the back lounge area. We took our glasses of wine and settled into a cozy couch to watch some of the best live jazz and R&B that I've seen in awhile. Over all, I'm SO glad I didn't stay in the other night, and can't wait to be back to my new favorite...
