Swung by Scallywags Irish Pub after a long afternoon of St. Patrick's Day drinking. An Irish pub sounded like the perfect way to end the day. There was a live musician playing guitar that was fantastic, the staff was super quick and friendly, and we had a pretty good time. My friend ordered the corned beef and cabbage as one should on such a holiday. But I had a hankering for a mushroom swiss burger. We also split the seafood stuffed mushrooms as a starter. So let me start there, the mushrooms were pretty good, though I'm not sure they were worth $5 a piece. The seafood stuffing was pretty yummy, but the mushrooms sat in a horseradish gravy that I am not familiar with. Maybe that's an old Irish dish or the chef was getting creative, but it was just okay. I think it would have enjoyed it more without the gravy. As for the mushroom Swiss burger, it was pretty damn delicious! Cooked perfectly, juicy, with a side of those yummy matchstick fries, I was in heaven as I finished off my final beer of the day. My friend absolutely loved his corned beef and cabbage, and commented that it really hit the spot. He even had plenty of extra food for a separate meal the following day. In the end, I would definitely visit Scallywags Irish Pub again. The fact that it was a super busy holiday and they were putting out great food in a reasonable amount of time, had both of us thoroughly impressed. The wait staff was on the go the whole time, made the experience pleasantly quick, and the live music really was a great way to finish off St Patrick's Day.

Scally Wags New York is a hidden gem that brings a delightful taste of Ireland right to the heart of the city. From the moment you step inside, you’re greeted with a warm, friendly atmosphere that feels like a cozy pub back in Ireland. The staff are exceptionally welcoming and attentive, making you feel right at home. The menu is a celebration of traditional Irish cuisine with a modern twist. Their Shepherd’s Pie is a hearty delight, with rich flavors and a perfectly crisp top. The hamburgers were very delightful as well as the nachos that had a wonderful taste. Everyone ate them all! The chicken and french fries for the kids is always a hit and it was very fresh as the staff stated their food is always fresh!! What truly sets Scally Wags apart is their commitment to quality and authenticity. Each dish is prepared with care, using fresh ingredients that elevate the dining experience. The drink selection is equally impressive, featuring a wide range of Irish whiskeys and perfectly poured pints of Guinness. We were both excited to see that they had Harp on draft. Whether you’re looking for a casual meal with friends or a cozy date night, Scally Wags New York delivers an unforgettable dining experience. The blend of great food, excellent service, and charming ambiance makes it a standout spot in the city. We watched the Euro cup and there were two different TVs on both sides where everyone could watch. This place is highly recommended! Make sure you go see Cathy as she is a wonderful, caring person that took such great care of us!!

I was visiting NYC for my birthday and had to change hotels. While waiting for our new hotel room to be ready we went for a short walk and came upon this little pub. It was open so we went in. This was by far one of the best decisions I made during my trip. They were so nice to us. We ordered food and drinks and all were great. Our waitress was magnificent! She was so accommodating. I’m from Alabama and it was game day. She was more than happy to put the game on two tvs so we could see from either side of our table. We were loud but we were in the midst of some fine people who weren’t bothered by us at all. I must say for my first experience in an Irish pub I was very impressed. The food was good. Especially the fries. If you’re inNYC and see this place…GO IN!! You will have a good time.

Probably my quickest and worst visit to a pub. I took a seat at the bar and ordered a Guinness. The lady bartender asked for my name to open a tab as I handed her my credit card. I politely responded that I didn’t want to keep the tab open and requested she close it immediately.

She asked for my name again, which seemed unnecessary since I wasn’t opening a tab. I repeated my request to close it, assuming she didn’t understand me the first time. At that point, there was no need for her to ask for my name. Right?

After visiting hundreds of bars, I’ve never encountered a situation like this. What happened next was shocking. She looked at me like I was the one being unreasonable, and as I was about to explain myself, she turned away to enter my order into the system. That’s when I noticed she typed my name as “DICK.” She did this almost in front of me, without hesitation. When I asked her, out of curiosity, what she had typed, she responded with, “Guy.” But I clearly saw “D.I.C.K.” on the screen.

I left immediately, not even taking a sip of my beer. I couldn’t help but feel insulted, especially as she seemed to act superior, possibly because of her age compared to mine. While I respect experience and professionalism in bartenders, treating a customer with such disrespect is unacceptable.

I won’t be returning to this bar, and I’d caution others to consider how customers are treated here...
