This place is PHENOMENAL! I was blown away by everything I had at this place. Everything here is 10/10 and I was completely satisfied with my experience for the first time here. I came in for a casual late Sunday afternoon meal. Immediately walking in to this place you can feel that it has a very cozy and inviting environment. There is lovely French music playing that creates a great ambiance. The staff are all so attentive and quick to assist with everything and anything. They immediately clear your tables from empty plates, refill glasses and replace silverware. You want for nothing with great service like that! We started with the steak tartare and the shrimp cocktail which were both extremely delicious appetizers. The real treat was what our waiter recommended: the cote de boeuf. This was a 28oz medium rare steak, cooked to perfection to be shared for two. We decided to get the red wine sauce to pair with our steak. Before being served the steak, a member of staff brings out the whole steak on a pan for you to observe the presentation and preparation. They then proceed to cutting the steak into slices and serving it with fries and a salad. Everything was perfect! The char, the sauce, the tenderness, the juiciness and the flavor profile were all the best combination to have in a steak. Even the shoe string fries are so crispy, soft and delicious to be paired with the meal. I did not come here expecting to have dessert but after a meal like that, I was curious to try what was on the menu. We ordered the chocolate soufflé and the crème brûlée. We were told the soufflé takes a few minutes to prepare and asked to have both desserts be brought out together. I couldn’t believe how delicious both desserts were! The soufflé was so light and rich that just has the perfect balance of sweetness. The crème brûlée has a creamy vanilla taste that is absolutely addictive. I was surprised that after having two appetizers and a 28oz steak that I was still able to devour the desserts. It may seem like I am exaggerating, but I was truly impressed by everything on this menu. I could not be happier with this place. I promise that you wouldn’t be disappointed if you dined here. I highly recommend you check this place out as it has now become a favorite of mine. I will definitely...
Read moreWhen you are travelling and wanting to have a pleasant time, mainly in NY city, finding little "gem tiny restaurants" is great. Last February, when I was in NY with my family, by chance we walked into this tiny Baltazar like bistro in Hell's Kitchen. We were a party of 4 and it was restaurant week. We got lucky, and now I know that, since we didn't have a reservation, and we found ourselves 4 places at the bar, with the help of a lovely host, we were tended by a lovely waitress and bartender. We had a blast. And the food was good. I am with my wife again in NY. Among thousands of choices of restaurants we decided to make a reservation, at this time, for a table for 2 people, 15 days before the occasion. at the same Steak Frites Afyer a long day of work, we arrived 15 min before the reservation. The host already greeted us saying our options were: sitting outside (85 degrees) or in a stool on a high table. We looked around and there were several 2 person tables available. "Can't we seat there?" I asked politely. "No, unfortunately your reservation was for a high table" My wife said: " No sir, I called personally and booked a table for 2" Ohh but unfortunately, this, unfortunately that... And I'm recovering from a back problem. After much thought over our exhaustion state, we decided to give a shot sitting on the high table. Impossible! The waiter was able to literally "throw" a bread basket over where my plate was supposed to go. We were already displeased with the lack of empathy and kindess of the host. So we ordered only the first course, to leave fast. What was our surprise, when the manager, appeared with the bill, appologizing but not really. Saying next time we went.. If we did the "right reservation" Immediately I stopped him and said : "Excuse me sir, we made the reservation as it was supposed to be made, on the phone, 15 days ago, and today you called to confirm it." Than he had the audacity of poking me in the shoulder saying: " Sometimes customers dont say the truth" At that moment i had to count to a hundred to calm down with the total lack of respect and politeness of the manager. I will never go back and so shouldn't you. Better go...
Read moreI had booked a table back in January for my partner and I for Valentine’s Day. At the time of making the reservation, we were both pleasantly surprised by the restaurant week prix-fix menu that was supposedly running through February. We both commented on the dates as we were elated that we were able to take advantage despite it being Valentine’s Day - most restaurants finished the menu in the first week.
Furthermore, their everyday prix fixe dinner menu was very reasonable at $55 dollars per person, with ample variety to choose from. In fact, we had even already decided what we were going to order. I’d heard great things about the onion soup and couldn’t wait to try the steak.
However, when we arrived at the restaurant and were shown to our table, we were handed a completely different menu. The only prix fixe menu on offer was the Valentine’s Day menu - $145 with extremely limited options. Our only choices were lobster bisque to start and the steak frites as the main course.
We questioned it with the waiter and he told us that this was our only option as they weren’t serving the regular prix fixe that evening and the restaurant week menu had finished - despite what had been advertised. We could, however, order from the main menu where the steak alone is almost $50.
I don’t mind paying a little more for a special occasion, especially if I know ahead of time. This just felt very sneaky and manipulative - they didn’t advertise the Valentine’s Day prix fixe menu until a day or two before and there was no mention when I made the reservation that the usual menu wouldn’t be available. Also, the lack of choice made it even more difficult - neither of us can eat lobster bisque so we’re we’re almost forced into ordering from main menu.
In the end, I felt so disappointed that we decided to give our table up and leave without ordering. The prices weren’t what necessarily put us off - New York restaurants are getting more expensive by the day - but what we were expecting and what was advertised wasn’t on offer and what was on offer was so...
