FOOD: 1.) Burger w cheddar = pretty good but has a particular taste…I didn’t order the “impossible burger” but somehow it kinda tastes like a plant based burger still? Doesn’t taste like ground beef patty, more like a shredded pork texture. 2.) side salad = it’s good
SERVICE: QR code menu and order from the bar only. Food orders get a table number. I like that they have happy hour 5-7p and wine Wednesday with wine bottles $10 off.
ATMOSPHERE: Outside is unassuming, just a single theater neon light, which I like. Very small narrow doors from the corner of the building, makes you think it’s not a real bar/restaurant/theater establishment. Inside is quite spacious almost agoraphobic, would be great for groups so note to self for the future. Has an overall kind of Art Deco vibe in the decor too, and two large projected music video or a film on the wall.. old punk rock playing… large center bar, and some booth seating surrounding.
Love thats it’s near some thrift stores so you can get your shopping at L train vintage nearby or meander to other happenings.
Doorway entrance with showtimes and ooh looks like they have weekly events like bachelor watching party on Mondays 8p! Or movie trivia or watching the Oscar’s....
Read moreGreat food, great ambience, absolutely insane covid rules. The hostess asked for our vaccine cards before we could enter. That has never happened to me at any other bar or restaurant, but I happily showed my card, assuming that I wouldn't have to wear a mask inside for doing so. She even made us wait because my girlfriend was having trouble with her phone and couldn't pull it up immediately. She then insisted on taking our temperature, taking down our information and we had to continue wearing our masks until we were seated. I was absolutely okay with these rules even a couple of weeks ago, but a lot of other bars and restaurants I visit have adjusted their policies now, without even asking for proof of vaccination. It doesn't even make any sense to make people wear masks indoors if you're allowing bar seating and maskless people are literally sitting all over the place, especially if we're fully vaccinated like my entire party was. None of this stuff is legally required anymore.
I do really like this place and I had a good experience last week when for whatever reason I wasn't asked for my vaccine card at all. Will gladly return in a couple of months to see if the hygiene theater has been...
Read more$8 beer and a shot -- a dying combo love it. Would like to see some less greasy/fried options on the menu. The bar vibe and cocktails are 5/5.
BUT, the theatre is 1/5. They need to have a sound engineer sit in the theatre and actually listen to how movies sound in there. I believe the sound system is WAY too overpowered for the space and there isn't enough dampening for the acoustics. They placed the center channel on the floor so the first row gets blasted but in the mid and back rows it reverberates off of all the hard surfaces creating noticable echo. This is especially bad because dialogue comes through there as well so often it's hard to understand what characters are even saying. For a movie like Crimes of the Future it was basically unintelligible. I think it is fixable but a lot of thought needs to go into the sound quality for each movie.
The seats are spacious but likely designed by someone who has never had a bad day with their back. They're flat 90 degrees/perpendicular benches -- it gets uncomfortable for me within 10 minutes -- spent a lot of the movie shifting around.
Then again, tickets are $9 which makes this hard to argue about -- YMMV but I likely won't be back...
