First time trying the TGTG bag from here and it was a bad experience!
Got there 15 mins earlier, pick up time was 10pm and when I got there, there was another customer buying full-priced items, so I politely asked if I could collect my TGTG order. The worker (hair dyed blonde) seemed annoyed and told me to wait until 10. So I said oh okay, I'll wait but she then asked me to wait outside in the cold... So I asked if I can use their restroom before going outside to wait until 10pm but she told me the bathroom is closed... This was before 10pm and the store apparently closed at 10pm.
So I went outside and just walked around but I made sure to return to the bakery at 9:55pm. I returned to find others waiting so I waited with them. At 10pm sharp, the same rude hair dyed blonde worker opened the door and said TGTG people to enter the store one by one. She pointed at this lady who arrived after me to enter first and she got to choose first...
I was okay with waiting until 10pm and I'm fine if you want me to wait outside but not letting me use the bathroom is ridiculous. TGTG customers could potentially become full-priced customers, so this attitude doesn't make sense. Horrible, I would never come back.
Hopefully the owner sees this and understands, the bakery items are okay but the workers are ruining...
Read morePork floss is delicious. A pork floss cake is interesting. A strawberry pork floss cake is intriguing af. After coming across various photos and videos, I knew I had to try it.
Lookswise, the strawberry floss cake is reminiscent of the good humor strawberry shortcake ice cream bars. There are small pieces of strawberries intermixed with the floss covering the cake, giving a nice contrast of sweet and salty with every bite. The texture difference between the two also makes for a good mouthfeel.
On the other hand, the thai tea cake was a bit of a disappointment. It was lacking the oomph that thai tea drinks have. I wish that the flavor of the thai tea was stronger; it was way too subtle. In between the sponge cake layers were strawberries, keeping it refreshing and preventing the cream from being too cloying.
Both cakes were light and not too sweet. If you're looking to get the 4inch mini cakes, especially the more popular ones, I recommend going early. Only two strawberry floss and thai tea cakes were available as of 11:30AM on a Friday. The cashier was friendly and accommodating. She double checked to see if the cakes were correct and was able to switch out one that wasn't. Despite there being many customers and a full house, everything was...
Read moreThis is my first time here and it looks so fancy when I went inside. It’s all marbled here and glass caged pastries. The pineapple buns caught my eyes because the style and shape it comes in. This place is definitely a lot smaller and rounder than other places for pineapple buns. They also the roast durian bread! Went to so many bakeries and they barely got durian until I came to Shakalaka Bakery. I love durian so much because of its potent flavor! I know it is an acquired taste that not many people like because they describe it as a stinky fruit.
Besides the pastries, I came here with my fellow Yelp Elites and got a matcha green tea cake slice. The cake is chiffon so it is very light and fluffy to the bite. The cake was filled with lots of matcha cream and strawberries we’re not that fresh in my opinion. The strawberries looked like canned berries. Somewhat tart but not shiny or glossy from the outside for my liking. The cake overall was not that strong of a green tea flavor. It was...
