Update: Price increase. They’ve added tax in the last week instead of having it baked into the price. Two slices are now $7.08, instead of $6.50. So, I guess with tax a single regular slice would be $3.54. I wish they’d just include the tax as before and round up or down to some even amount. Still love their pizza though.
Original review: Not sure how I never reviewed Lucia before. As a kid, I’d have a slice every Saturday. My parents would also often get me a slice on their way home from work during my picky eating stage. It tied with Barone for my favorite pizza place growing up. I really love their pizza and could easily have it everyday.
Lucia serves the perfect NY-style thin crust pizza. It’s greasy and cheesy, with just the right amount of sauce. My mom absolutely loves their regular slice and their sicilians. Whenever she visits, she wants to order a pie. The house pie is huge and worth it. It takes about 25 minutes to make so order ahead for pickup, or do what I do—place your order in person, then go do your Main Street/Roosevelt shopping until it’s ready. There is no one in my family who doesn’t love them.
They’re almost always busy, especially during meal times, when school lets out, etc, but if you’re getting only one or two slices, the wait is usually not long. It’s a real neighborhood joint even with the limited seating. (I’m old enough to remember when it was bigger and they had tables!) The service is friendly. There has only ever been one person working there who (whom?) I didn’t like and would actively avoid if he was taking orders, but thankfully I haven’t seen him in a long while. Everyone else is great, including the guys in the back making the pizzas.
Tip: If you like your pizza crispy, like my mom does, just ask. But, you need to eat it immediately. If you get it to-go, it will lose that crispness. Better to crisp it yourself when you get home on a flat pan. It’s really actually better when you do it yourself at home.
Sadly, they don’t offer individual white slices, but you can buy a white pie and it’ll be delicious. You can get it with toppings like jalapeños, onions, mushrooms, and...
Read moreFirst thing that captured my attention was the overwhelming amount of reviews this place has. I had just moved in locally, so I didn't have much else to work off of. I wanted to see why this place seemingly generated so much traffic, and I must say that I was satisfied by the expectation set by others.
I place myself on a tight budget, so I just did a regular slice and I don't do toppings - especially pepperoni. The size of the slice was perfect and made for a quick and filling lunch. The quality of the cheese and sauce was just about right, and nothing too exciting or game changing.
The pizza had a good firmness to it when it's held by the crust. I know some may not care, but I like to hold my pizza by the crust with my hand - like everyone else in the states - and I don't like the tip getting floppy on me. I expect pizza to be decently firm or straight, so I don't have to angle my mouth to take a bite because that's just annoying. I think it helps that the slice is thin as I assume thicker slices tend to droop. It's kinda like what that one guy from Barstool talks about, in fact, I saw his video after visiting Lucia.
Overall environment was just meh/average. I guess going to a pizza shop like this gives exactly the environment you should expect, so I aint gonna say much more about that.
Tl;dr I would say this pizza shop is worth going to for a quick bite every now and then. I mean the price is 3$ (I aint including taxes) for a regular slice, and it's got everything you want in a slice. It's filling for the stomach, and the quality of the ingredients is good enough to enjoy the whole slice. I would say it's not something I will desire often as my expectations weren't fully met, but I may have unreasonable expectations in terms of quality and overall experience for just a local pizza shop.
P.S. I apologize that I can't give any culinary opinion on the sauce, cheese, and pizza dough. I aint got that experience and I'm sure people don't care that much when we talking about some budget priced...
Read moreOn February 9, 2021, an order was placed to Lucia Pizza on Roosevelt Ave in Queens NY for 2 orders of hot wings, 2 slices of pizza and an order of Garlic Knots. The order, according to the person who answered the phone, came to $7 and change. The person on the phone then said “ we require a $10 minimum for delivery. An extra order of wings was then added. The amount came to $10.75. The person on the phone said the order would take approximately 50 minutes to an hour and 10 minutes to be delivered which was fine. The food was ultimately delivered fairly quickly, which I was pleased about initially. After paying the delivery person the amount of the order plus a $5 tip, I put the food down in the kitchen for about 5 minutes. Upon opening the box, I realized that the 2 slices of pizza were missing from the order, which wasn’t a big deal until a phone call was placed to Lucia Pizza to advise them of the misstep. The person on the phone VEHEMENTLY disputed the initial order. So much so, that he became belligerent and condescending on the phone disputing what order was placed. At this point , we are both talking at each other trying to make our own points. The person on the phone proceeds to be disrespectful and rude and eventually hangs the phone up on me. I didn’t bother calling back because it’s not a loss for me because I’ve never eaten from this place before this day and never will again. However, my friends do but won’t anymore from this day on. Customer service is or at least should be paramount, especially during these times and to be handled disrespectfully by anyone who’s in the food service industry making minimum wage is offensive and intolerable. If you can’t handle an “irate or unhappy “ customer venting about an INCORRECTLY TAKEN ORDER, you should try filling out applications for a different line of work because you sir are very thin skinned and fragile, therefore u obviously...
