fellow weebs, i know you want to come here to spend your money on pretty food and merch featuring your favorite characters. however i wouldnt recommend doing that unless you are a diehard fan and here's why.
PROS: i would have given this place 5 stars simply because it's the first of it's kind in the states. ive been to anime themed cafes in japan and was absolutely thrilled when i heard one was arriving near me. the store's decor and presentation of the food are quite charming - there are many fans rightfully taking photos of them. the staff are generally kind and helpful, albeit confused at times as theyre still getting the hang of running a new cafe. however the cons are too great for me to justify giving this place a higher rating...
CONS: as other reviewers have mentioned, the price that youre paying for the quality and quantity of the food alone is atrocious. if you want to come here ONLY for your favorite characters, then it might be worth it. if you don't care about the series, then there is absolutely no reason to eat here. one of the savory meals is a literally a cup of milk and a cup of cooked pork (which came cold) for $38. if you've eaten in flushing countless times as i have, then i dont need to explain to you why that's a horrible deal. if you absolutely want to buy something from this restaurant, fill up elsewhere, then get a single drink so you can at least feel festive and get a small free merch with your purchase.
bottom line: youre coming to this restaurant to celebrate your fandom, not to fill your belly. treat this place like an amusement center that happens to serve food rather than a proper restaurant. if you love the characters enough to justify spending $50+ on a tiny meal, only then will this cafe...
Read moreIf you love overpaying for Dunkin’ donuts in cosplay, this place is for you. For everyone else — save your money.
What a waste of prime Flushing real estate. Honestly, it feels like this place thinks its customers are suckers.
I ordered two combos:
Donut + ice cream (with a “free gift”) Berry soda (also with a “free gift”)
Red flag number one? Watching staff stroll into the kitchen with two giant Dunkin’ Donuts boxes. And sure enough, the donut tasted exactly like Dunkin’s. The ice cream was nothing more than whipped cream with Rice Krispies dumped on top — sad, lazy, and something a 5-year-old could’ve slapped together.
The bill? $50.20 after a mandatory 15% tip. For what? The “free gifts” are cheap trinkets that don’t even begin to justify the markup. (ALSO this is a one person order, keep that in mind)
Service was just as bad:
• My first drink took 30 minutes to come out and was flat. Asked for a replacement, and suddenly it’s ready in 5 minutes. • Staff were running around clueless, with two or three different people asking me if I got my “gift.” • A waitress handed me my receipt before my order was even complete, which caused confusion at the table next to me too.
This place isn’t about food. It’s about gimmicks. They’re banking on anime/cartoon fans who get dazzled by the theme and don’t realize how bad the food is.
👉 Bottom line: don’t waste your money here. Flushing has real gems worth your hard-earned cash — this isn’t...
Read moreThe food was very okay. But you know you’re not coming for the food; you’re coming for the merch. This is also why the food is so expensive - each dish comes with a merch “freebie”. They ran out of some stuff earlier than expected considering the event is supposed to last a month. Furthermore, when they announced there were new freebies, I inquired about it and they didn’t have it yet
I also came on opening day and it was very busy. I thought it was very interesting the way the staff treated me before and after I spoke Mandarin Chinese. Before, when I inquired about going into the downstairs area, where the merch was, the staff said I had to wait since it was crowded. Right after he told me this, another woman and her daughter went downstairs ahead of me. I decided to follow them and he stopped me. I told him in Mandarin Chinese that the mother and daughter went downstairs before me. Then suddenly he was apologetic and said I could go downstairs. My brothers in taizi dianxia, it was not crowded at all downstairs
The merch is very pretty, but it wasn’t clearly labeled. I thought I bought a pack of photocards, but it was just 1 card lol. Luckily, the merch pricing is okay and not scalper-level which I’m used to
Overall it was a 3.75/5 experience,...
