I don't know what bee got stuck in his bonnet, but the cashier was being nasty for no reason. I walked in the morning and asked for a beef rice noodle. The cashier said they don't serve rice noodles, but they do serve rice rolls and that "I should know better”. I guess it is because I looked Chinese that he assumed "I should know better”? Even if I misread the menu, he should’ve kept his opinion to himself. When I asked for the #2 on the menu and requested to add peanut, hosin and soy sauce, the cashier said that they don't offer those sauces. But there was a picture of it on the menu. I pointed that out and he changed his response to "Oh, that is a different menu item, we don’t add those sauces to the #2”. Ok, so you do have it. When I asked for it again, he said each sauce will cost me a $1 EACH. When I asked for just the peanut sauce, he clicked his tongue at me and said, “No, I can't sell it to you separately” or “they come combined already". I tuned him out after he clicked his tongue at me and said no. So, you are trying to scam $3 off me for sauces that are normally given for free at every noodle store and cost 10 cents for you make? Also, what is the point of saying it is $1 each if it can’t be sold separately. I cancelled the order...
Read moreThis place is super clamped and has about 4 seats so it's hard to find a seat because it'll most likely be taken. I came at about 5:30pm on a Sunday and was lucky that there wasn't a line of people waiting to order so the service was quick. Food: The cheung fun is super super thin. While watching the cook make it, he put a small amount of the batter onto a large flat sheet pan and spread it on every corner — this helps to achieve the thinness of the rice noodles. Personally, i prefer the thinner rice noodles compared to thicker ones in texture. I love that they added a decent amount of meat compared to other places I've been to that skimp on the meat. I also added an egg (extra $1) which enhances the taste a lot! I do wish that they gave more soy sauce in the little containers. But overall, it was so silky, thin, and delicious. This place gives me a lot of nostalgia, back to when I was a kid going to school in Chinatown and every morning, my mother would take me to a small store on East Broadway & Essex that sold dim sum and...
Read moreThis mom-and-pop rice roll store is too small to handle their popularity. It’s very tiny inside and it’s pact! There’s barely any space to walk or stand. You are rubbing elbows and chests with one another. It can get pretty chaotic given the number of customers and their capacity and there’s a one-hour wait after you put down your order because they are that popular! My recommendation is to put down your order, go somewhere else and then come back. Keep your receipt because they won’t give you your order without the receipt. They won’t even remember if you pay without the receipt because there are way too many customers. But is the hassle worth it? HELL YEAH! It’s the best rice roll I’ve had in NYC and it was precisely the taste from my childhood! The authenticity they possess is getting lost nowadays. So get in line and...
