Silver Rice has totally won me over. Tucked away in Lefferts Gardens, this little takeout-only spot doesn’t try to impress with flashy decor or over-the-top service—it just quietly delivers some of the freshest, most satisfying Japanese-inspired food around. The vibe is no-frills, the service is efficient (they’ve got to keep up with a nonstop stream of delivery orders), but the food? Pure gold.

I started with the Harvest Bowl, which they describe as “a bountiful harvest of all your favorite ingredients,” and that’s exactly what it felt like. Unagi, Spicy Tuna, Salmon, Ikura, Crab, Avocado, Tamago, Red Pickles—it was like a greatest hits lineup, and every single bite was fresh, flavorful, and beautifully balanced. It’s the kind of bowl that makes You pause and appreciate how good food can be when it’s done right.

Then I tried the Piri Camote Roll—a vegetarian roll that’s absolutely packed with flavor. The sweet potato pomme purée, spicy mayo, crunchy red pickles, avocado, and cucumber all work in perfect harmony. It’s hearty, comforting, and somehow still feels fresh and light. Super delicious.

I also got the Exclusive Veggie Combo, which includes the Sunshine Slaw Roll and the Vegan Eel Roll. That Vegan Eel Roll is a standout—fried tofu with eel sauce and sliced cucumber? Brilliant. It’s rich and savory, and I genuinely didn’t miss the fish.

Even the Shrimp Dumpling Miso Soup impressed me. It’s a classic done right—warm, savory, and super comforting with tender little dumplings that soak up all that miso goodness.

Next time I go, I’m definitely getting one of their Silver Rice Cups (SRCs). They look like beautiful little mini chirashi bowls—layered with rice, vibrant toppings, and just packed with flavor. And I’ve already got my eye on their two mackerel dishes, which look seriously tempting: • The Negi Saba Roll, with vinegared mackerel, scallions, and sesame, looks like a perfect balance of rich and fresh. • The Saba Bowl, which adds ginger paste to that mix, seems like the kind of meal that hits all the right notes—savory, clean, and super satisfying.

Silver Rice may fly under the radar, but it’s got soul. If You love fresh, creative Japanese food made with care and attention to detail, this spot is a must. I’m already planning...

THE COUPLE • Experienced Urban Foodies spend days stalking their prey throughout the concrete jungle. Hunting in pairs, they formulate strategy and determine clandestine routes of attack. Known for their patience and ability for surprise they sneak up on their prey and wait for the ideal moment to ATTACK‼️ . What...⁉️ Is this not how you go about planning and executing a dinner date over sushi🍣❓😜 • THE COOKBOOK • The one of a kind Pumpkin Silver Rice Cup (deconstructed) with rice, salmon, avocado, kale, kabocha squash, spicy mayo and black pepper😁 . Salmon Kombu roll comprised of fresh salmon, avocado, scallion, jalapeño, kombu kelp, honey ginger, & vinaigrette celery💥 . Macrobiotic packed with beet pate, cashews, ginger, agave, avocado, steamed kale, cucumber (basically everything your body yerns for☺️) • THE CHEF • "Sushi is Japanese food, but people don't think about it as "Japanese" any longer. It's become an everyday food, like pizza. When we thought about opening @SilverRiceNY, Brooklyn was just starting to change. Some people who grew up in the neighborhood had never had raw fish, where as many new neighbors were more accustomed Japanese cuisine. This was initially a challenge, but we tried to overcome it with our menu. We wanted to make sushi available for everyone! As a result, we tried to find the right balance between high quality and price to ensure that our customers had a great experience. . While discussing our menu over a cup of coffee we thought, why don't we use a cup for sushi?! The white cup is easily recognizable, and makes sushi more approachable, enjoyable, and casual for everyone we welcome through our doors. In essence, we wanted to take the traditional, and make something new out of it. Our goal is to provide affordable high-quality sushi to every neighborhood. We feel like this can be done by educating our staff about Japanese cuisine so that they are empowered to educate our customers. This is our biggest challenge... Nevertheless, what's most important is staying true to ourselves, keeping the menu small, and maintaining high-quality sushi paired with an enjoyable experience for everyone."~...

We’ve ordered from Silver Rice plenty of times and it’s always been good, quality fish and vegan sushi. This last night however, my wife accidentally swallowed a particularly large bone from the eel cup that she had and is currently debating seeing a doctor to remove it (still stuck in her throat after a day). We were also served what I can only be described as…rice crispies covered in gasoline, I thought they were supposed to go over my rice bowl, but they absolutely destroyed the flavor and smelled putrid. Not sure what was happening the other night, but definitely not the Silver Rice...

wow. Okay new sushi place I love. The food was fantastic. It felt small when the order arrived from delivery, which was really quick on Caviar/DoorDash, $36 for 3 rolls b4 taxes & fees, but really it was a significant amount of food just three rolls quite filling and incredibly tasty. I ate half before I thought to take a picture because really it was incredibly delicious. Sept 1: ordered again tonight and very disappointed with the Oyako roll. Almost no salmon roe. See attached image from seamless menu & compare it to what I just got.
