Seemed like an ideal spot for breakfast or lunch. Operative word is seemed... The waitress wasn't super friendly since we had walked in. We're pretty low key and low maintenance so not sure what the issue was. It also wasn't a rush time- 10:30am on a Wednesday so most tables empty. I ordered the Baruch which seemed like a vegetarian friendly option with the beyond sausage.
Despite the beyond sausage being noted on the Baruch description (without any asterisk as to an additional price) it was extra. After eating it a bit I noticed there were several chunks of bacon in the potatoes (along with the eggs tasting like bacon grease). I tried to point this out to the waitress but she was super dismissive that it wasn't bacon. She was convinced that it was onion or pepper that got "too crispy". I'm sorry but it was very clearly meat.
Then when we got the astronomical bill for three people eating a light breakfast, I asked why my dish which mistakenly had bacon in it wasn't discounted or taken off the bill. She went on to say I was wrong- it was onion or pepper. Ummmm had she not said "okay" when taking my plate initially and being made to think she finally came around to see it was bacon, I would have broken a piece apart in front of her or someone else to show that it was, in fact, bacon.
I've worked in the service industry, I get it that it's not always a great job and customers can be a pain. But... maybe don't try to dispute this hard when it's clear. Also kind of gross to make it like there are a lot of vegan and vegetarian friendly options on the menu and then have a cow when I point out that there is bacon in it. I'm not in the business of sending dishes back or being fussy because I've been on the other side of it quite a bit, but to try to calmly point out an issue and find a solution, only to be met with odd hostility was discerning.
The pancakes were good and plated in a pretty manner, otherwise the egg dishes were subpar and $22+. I'd suggest going to the diner around the corner next time instead. Definitely not coming back here and don't suggest...
Read moreTable was ready, but seventh member of the party was not there so the waitstaff forced us to wait outside in the pouring rain:
We were really looking forward to dining here, but unfortunately, the service left a lot to be desired. After putting our name on the waitlist at noon and waiting an hour and our table to be ready, the staff refused to seat us because one member of our seven-person party hadn't arrived yet. I explained the subway was stuck but they’re on the way, and they said that was fine, we could stand and wait but we couldn’t be seated until everyone arrived. After 1 minute of us quietly waiting, as out of the way as possible, they told us we had to stand outside. Well, it was pouring rain. Because we were in the way, and it was raining, I asked if we could just sit down (at our 7 person table that had been ready during this entire interaction). Again, they said no it’s their policy everyone has to be there and they are watched and get in trouble if they break policy. I said I completely understand, but can an exception be made as it was pouring outside. I was then met with hostility with 3 waitstaff coming up to me saying we had to wait outside in the rain. I asked why this rule is in place, as all rules have reasons and they were clueless. I’m not sure if the owners of the restaurant are so horrible to their waitstaff that the waitstaff feels they can’t accommodate paying customers, but it was unnecessarily rigid and unwelcoming, especially considering the circumstances. A little flexibility or courtesy would’ve gone a long way. Instead, we left and went to a different restaurant and I have no intention of ever...
Read moreBest brunch I’ve had on 3rd ave! I love their brunch so much I went two weekends in a row. Last weekend, I had the burrata toast and a turmeric latte. The latte was a little bitter for me but nothing two packets of sugar couldn’t fix. The burrata toast was everything I dreamed of. Fresh figs and balsamic on point. The only problem was trying to decide how to eat it. It was a little tall to pick up and bite, but the crust was a little too hard to cut well with the knife. I fork and knifed it anyway. Would do again. I also tasted my brother’s eggs Benny, which has duck instead of ham. The duck was smoky though almost like a ham. Would order for myself. This weekend, I had the steak and eggs, and when I tell you it was the best steak and eggs I’ve ever had, I’m not lying. The chimichurri on this steak was out of this world. I need it on everything. Not my favorite cut of steak, but was well seasoned and a good value for the price. And hell, I’d eat anything with that sauce on it. My mom had (and I sampled) the salmon toast, which similar to my burrata toast the week prior, was very tall and definitely fork and knife food, and she struggled to cut through the crust too, but the efforts were rewarded. The big ole capers on this baby provided a great depth of flavor. I feel about dill the way some people feel about cilantro, but I enjoyed the dill cream cheese nonetheless. Zero complaints, and will continue to bring my family here whenever they come...
