I recently visited Telly's Taverna a few weeks ago to attend a lunch for a baptismal party. I had been to Telly's several times before and the experience was pretty good, however after my last visit I was extremely disappointed and will not be going back. I had arrived at the party at 2:30pm and we were seated in the back part of the restaurant. After 30 minutes of waiting the waitress came and took our drink and food orders. I ordered my meal along with a johnny walker black. After the waitress brought me my drink, I proceeded to take a few sips and quickly realized the drink I was sipping was not Johnny black but Johnny "bomba" -meaning it was a bootlegged concoction made to look and smell like Johnny black but to someone that drinks the real thing very often, I could not be easily fooled. The reason is, (for anyone that's never drank it), real Johnny black isn't supposed to taste like gasoline-it's supposed to taste like scotch. However they must think that the customers are stupid but they are not. I called the waitress over and told her I did not like my drink and that it was not Johnny black. She proceeded to play dumb and pretend to not understand. In the end she even charged me for it, which shows what this restaurant really thinks of its customers. Getting back to the rest of the "dining experience", one hour later and still no food. I got up to stretch a little and see what was going on. I thought, "maybe they're just really busy today", to my surprise the restaurant was not even half full and 4 waitresses were just standing around doing nothing except chatting with each other. Another hour went by and hallelujah! the food finally managed to make its way to us. However my excitement was short lived as the food and presentation were subpar to say the least. I ordered the "bifteki" and got 4 small meatballs in a tiny plate, which were cooked on the outside and raw in the middle. My neighbor got their dish in a cast iron skillet, my cousin got her dish in a large flat plate, and my wife got her dish in a soup bowl-and it wasn't soup. Did they run out of plates or something? I don't know but nothing seemed consistent except that the service and food were both bad. The next day I needed to down a coke to help dissolve the bad food I ate there from the day before. Telly, if you were family I...
Read moreSuch a disappointing way to start #2019 My friends and I came here on New Year's Day to eat and celebrate the start of a new year. Instead, we experienced a series of unfortunate events. Beginning with our waitress who had MIsery written all over her face. She was rude, inappropriate and treated us like she was doing us a favor. In case you are wondering it was the older Greek lady. You will know exactly who she is because the entire Staff is very young in their twenties. No way to treat paying customers. I should also share with Everyone reading this that we have been dining here since Nana first opened this restaurant. It is now being operated by her daughter who we asked to speak with that day. We were told she was not there. Another waitress told us to share our concerns with her so we did. Her response, " I will send over one yogurt for the table when you are ready for dessert." Just so you know we were a table of Six. One of us inquired about the Sea Bass. There is NO Pricing when it comes to the fish ( Sea Bass, Red Snapper, Porgy, Branzino) They charge you by the weight. The waitress told us that she will charge us $28 for one sea bass. When the bill arrived she charged us $34. This Sea Bass was the tiniest we've ever seen. It was overcooked, dry, no seasoning-oil and lemon and difficult to chew. It came with NO Sides. Just the fish. We were charged $10 for a side of French fries. When the bill arrived we were charged $2 for the bread. You know the complimentary bread that every restaurant brings you at the start of your meal? Yeah, That! Our bill came out to over $300. We left a 25% tip to a waitress who deserved ZERO because WE have something called Class. With so many other Amazing #greekrestaurantsastoria within walking distance there is really No reason to...
