Unfortunately, this is the ONLY bar that I’ve been to for like 5 min and had the worst time ever. The bouncer refused to let me in because he assumed I was drunk. First of all, as a bouncer you are taught to detect whether an individual is Intoxicated or not.(I have my bar tending liscience). Apparently, this bouncer is incapable of doing so. Yes, I did have an empty alcohol bottle prior to attempting to enter the bar, however I had that bottle for over a month and literally only drank what was left (less than a mouth full). And that drink was in a cranberry juice bottle. When I arrived the alcohol bottle was already empty. I didn’t want to leave the bottle in the UBER so I brought it with me to throw it out. Entering, my words were not slurred, neither was I walking funny. I was SOBER! There was no evidence of me being drunk. I asked this man over and over to tell me why he’s not letting me in and he just could not answer me. When I would ask, he would just say “Ms. You can’t stay here.” That’s not a reason to just not let someone in. Was I being discriminated against? For the 7 years I have been going to bars I have NEVER been treated like this, denied entry or kicked out. I know how to handle my liquor. And need I remind you that it was SANTA CON, although I was still sober, everyone is drinking that day! The police can see you with an open bottle and won’t say a word. I’ve been doing Santa con for 5 years now. I will NEVER go back there. Seemed like a decent spot too but that guy was in his feelings about idk what and doesn’t deserve to work there. He even threatened to call the police on me and I wasn’t even making a scene. I won’t go back there EVER! I’m even thinking of taking this further because I was definitely being discriminated against.
Btw I don’t really write reviews, at least negative ones. I try to always be positive but this is a...
Read moreI have been working in the industry 10+ years now and have never experienced a more distasteful interaction with a bartender than I did on Saturday evening 10/21/23. My coworkers and I decided to get a drink after working a long shift at our restaurant and were excited to head over to The Charleston since we frequent this place and normally have an amazing experience. Unfortunately that was not the case this time. I asked your bartender Stephanie for a highnoon and what flavors she had available. She followed up with a response saying "you'll get what I pull out" I chuckled because it was a bit rude, but accepted the process, knowing we can all have bad days. My friend let her know in a polite way that it was a bit rude and we just wanted to have a good time, have a drink and be on our way. Stephanie then proceeded to say " You're not coming into my house and telling me Im being rude"! She then told us to finish our drink, and leave, that we didn't need to pay for his beer! Giving product away because of her very own nasty demeanor. Only one of us got a drink, as she scolded my other friend, she poured down the drain the tequila she had just poured her. We were all a bit perplexed by this treatment and thought maybe she's had a bad day... we get it!! But this is still no way to treat a patron! We then told her, Stephanie we got off the wrong foot, lets restart to which Stephanies replied, " finish your drink and leave" We finished and left. This was a very unbecoming situation. I personally would never allow any of my staff to treat any guest in this manner!! Stephanie advised us that she has been doing this for 18 years and she knows what she is doing, but clearly Stephanie needs to find a new career path!!

Read moreGiven it's been quite some time since I've come here I used to be a sorta-kinda-but-not-really regular back when I actually hung out a bit in Willysburg and lived in Manhattan - way before I even uttered the word "Yelp".
This place is Brooklyn's (first) answer to Manhattan's Alligator Lounge - I say this only because both bars do the whole "free pizza with your beer" thing. That's pretty much where the similarities end.
While Alligator Lounge gives you a slice with each beer, The Charleston gives you A WHOLE PERSONAL PIE. Yep, you read that right. A WHOLE (super generous sized) PERSONAL PIE. FREE. WITH YOUR SUPER DUPER CHEAP BEER. ALL DAY. ALL NIGHT. Cray.
Pizza here isn't even awful - it truly is a great deal if you've only got like $4 in your pocket and are deciding whether or not to get dinner or get booze. Come here and get both - such a steal.
Now, I will say - this place is still very much a dive. The music is great - but divey. The bathrooms are decent bar bathrooms - but divey. Skee-ball in the back BOOM - divey. Drink/Beer prices are cheap, pretty strong and served with a pleasant smirk - divey.
Just writing this review makes me want to hop on in and bring friends that I'm positive have never been...definitely a fun place for no frills hanging out with a group of...
