We have had mixed experiences here. Two years in a row we went for the December carolers' brunch. (It was the caroling that brought us to this restaurant in the first place -- and the first two years they were great, as was everything else!) We had a great time, and everyone enjoyed it (caroling, food and service!). In fact, we enjoyed it so much that this year my daughter requested that she celebrate her 12-year-old birthday at the Lamb's Club during December when the Christmas carolers were going to be present. (Last year the carolers did a stirring rendition of Good King Wenceslas!) The food (and service) were also excellent. This year I waited for the announcement that they would be taking reservation for the brunch and booked as soon as I could (for a table for 8 -- for my daughter and her friends). Since I booked so early, I figured we would be assured a good table. Wrong assumption! They stuck my daughter (a party of 8) in the front corner of the restaurant where they couldn't even see the carolers -- they were on the side and even behind them. When I expressed my disappointment, I was told, "The carolers travel around." Since this was our third time going, I knew that they traveled around, but I also knew that their time at each table was very limited. So I went out to the front desk and kindly asked the manager if he would get the carolers to sing a few songs for my daughters' birthday (and I gave him $60, which I asked him to give to the carolers). For that request, the carolers came over and sang "Happy Birthday" and one cheesy Christmas carol (so instead of one minutes, they got about 2 whole minutes of singing). Later on, when we asked for the check, the waiter said they were going to bring out some dessert to celebrate my daughter's birthday (nice, but the kids were full so that was really unnecessary and we had a cake at home anyhow). So I told him, "You know what my daughter would probably really like is for the carolers to sing some songs." OK, my hopes were up, only to be completely dashed when they came out and sang happy birthday again (not what we wanted), while serving my daughter some orange dessert that she didn't even like. One other thing -- the table where they seated my daughter's party was meant for 7 people and we had a party of 8. As an aside, in the past, the carolers have always gone around the room several times seeking requests, but we didn't experience that this time around. For what we felt had been such a classy restaurant, this was a disappointing performance, though admittedly the food was still...
Read moreA waste of $300. They are more interested in beefing up your bill than service.
I was excited when we entered. I felt like we stepped back in time. Took a bit of time to get service, but when he came, the waiter seemed nice. He asked if we wanted bubbly or still water - guess tap was not an option - so he delivered a $20 bottle of still water. Not the end of the world.
We had the squash coated shrimp and heirloom tomato appetizers. Both were great. A surprise combination of flavors that worked very well together on each plate. We were feeling good and looking forward to dinner.
We ordered the recommendations from the waiter. I had the Peking duck and hubby ordered the salmon. The waiter asked him what side he wanted - like his fish came without anything - so he ordered the spinach. When the meals came they were disappointing. The salmon was too rich and almost raw and the skin was not crispy. And, it came on a wonderful bed of vegetables so we barely touched the $14 spinach. My duck was done great but soon the sweetness became too much. Something fresh and bright on the plate would have been good.
We had to flag someone down to refill hubby’s iced tea, but they were quick to offer another $25 glass of wine.
For dessert my husband ordered the peach cobbler. When it arrived it was not hot and the peaches were not cooked through. After we finally found someone to complain to, our waiter suggested the lemon cake. He commented on the size as he sat it down as it was huge. Taste was great but too much for husband to eat, even with my help. When we got the bill I was surprised to see a $30 charge - for two desserts as I did not order one. The waiter said all the desserts were served in portions for two. I guess we missed that on the menu. The truth is, a classy place would have comped the second dessert since the first one was not cooked.
Bottom line is that we spent over $300 for a meal that was disappointing, as was the service. I guess that is why the restaurant was almost empty when we left on a Friday...

McDonalds has better customer service, how sad. ..............................................................................................................................
Emailed prior to booking Thanksgiving reservations if they can accommodate vegan options and they insisted they do. For $150 I got a plate of roasted vegetables and a drink with egg whites that I was told didn't have any even after I asked twice. I started drinking it and the server came by 10 mins later and tells me that actually did have egg whites and they'll remake it. None of the sides were vegan even though the food runner insisted one was I knew already wasn't from reading the menu beforehand seeing it had butter. He said he'll triple check but he's pretty sure, came out 5 mins later and confirmed there was butter in it. Thankfully I know better than just to take someone's word for something anymore. Even the corner delis know what's in their food and drinks, Iron Chef staff? Nah guess a $1K bill for 4 people isn't enough to train them properly. Dessert for me was cut up fruit. Wow what a spectacular vegan dessert. Here's a tip, don't insist you accommodate vegans and serve them 6 cut up veggies and fruit for $150 and think that anyone is okay with that. Server staff needs a lot more training, aside from being completely inattentive, anyone that voices concern with food allergies will surely get very ill. I would think an iron chef could do better than this, if you're vegan or vegetarian save your money and appetite and go anywhere else or just looking for better service, plenty of other nice...
