I did not, I repeat I did not stumble across this place. I am a resident in the neighborhood and I have seen many a restaurant hold this spot but not for long. Tony Romo has been here as well as Atlantic Social and another restaurant which I will not bring to light. Those restaurants lasted for a little while and I must admit during the time of the pandemic it was pretty hard for a lot of restaurants to continue to flourish. So when my time finally came to go to Simpsons Restaurant I took advantage. I went with a good friend of mine who has sat down and enjoyed a meal or two here before. This was my very first time. However I am very familiar with seeing this chef at BB King's Blues Club which was in Manhattan. I believe they closed more than a few year ago. Before diving into a entrees she had a salad which she was not pleased with the leafy vegetables some were withered they weren't very green mostly the whiter portion of the lettuce a as you can see from the picture. It just don't look fresh n ready to eat. I had the coconut shrimp which were not served hot like I enjoy my food but at almost lukewarm temperature. Moving on to the entrees I decided I would go with something simple although the menu looked absolutely delicious and had the flavor of Jamaican seasonings all across the pages. I decided I would do a basic waffle and chicken. My friend had a steak with steamed vegetables and a cheesy potato. I must say the steamed vegetables this day according to her was not the best. She was correct. She stated that sometimes it has a nice curried flavor but this day it appeared as though it was just steamed with a little bit of salt and pepper. That's no way to do vegetables that are steamed representing Jamaican or West Indian culture. Nonetheless, her steak was cooked to perfection according to her. I did take a little small piece as I do not enjoy the flavor of beef that is why I took a small piece. SURPRISE, it was perfectly tender, cooked to her liking and the cheesy potato was absolutely wonderful. Now let's talk about my plate. My chicken was absolutely to die for. I come from a long line of fried chicken cookers to say the least. But this chicken that I had on this day OMG absolutely wonderful it was tasty no overbearing seasonings all the seasonings gathered together to play a tasteful symphony on my palate. I kid you not. As far as the waffle I mean, I don't think anyone can really damage your waffle too badly although I prefer mine a little lighter than what I received. But, it was still okay. The one thing I don't like is that they placed the syrup bottle on my plate which I have to eat out of. I don't like that. If it is not going into my mouth it should not be on my plate. A person has to pick up the item which I'm assuming would be my waiter place it on the plate and then bring the plate to me. Also where did the waiter pick up the bottle of syrup from ? Was it out and exposed? I don't know but this was my first time so I did not expect what I received. The next time around if I order it I will certainly say do not put the bottle of syrup on my plate. Perhaps the restaurant can incorporate this without anyone saying anything about it. It's just sanitary is it not? Both drinks were nice however the rum punch once again according to my friend the food and drink guru was absolutely punching. Throwing Left & Right punches all in her mouth across and uppercuts to her taste buds her, she was just in heaven. My apple martini was fine. She kind of made me jealous that I had something so calm LOL. I had a good experience here. There's a strong possibility I may return another time. I wish you guys the best with longevity here at the corner of Atlantic Ave near Portland in Brooklyn, NY.

So my girlfriend and I went here on a date night with reservations. All was fine entering, seating and changing them changing our seating when requested. All fine. The issue that made the whole experience terrible was that our server completely ignored us throughout the entire dinner. She came to us after about half an hour of waiting, took our orders and then completely ignored us. The whole experience was about 2 hours and 15 minutes or more because we were constantly waiting for everything. It took 20 minutes for drinks to arrive, 30 for appetizers and we put in the entree orders with appetizers, so that didn't come for a long time. She did not check in at all to see if the appetizer was good, for water, to give our entrees or to check if everything was good. I had to call her attention about the 2nd round of drinks, she stated "I'm going to check on them now" and they arrived 15-25 minutes later. We both requested double shots in all 3 drinks and got single as well (we were rung up correctly for singles so that is fine). The drinks were not strong at all, but honestly it's really upsetting because we were both looking forward to this place for about a week. I was going to bring my gf and my cousin here this upcoming weekend also, but now we're finding another place to try after this. I don't know what the server's problem with me, my gf, or us was but this was absolutely unacceptable. I'm not someone who does this lightly, or tolerates things lightly either. I work in the boroughs and am regularly looking for good food spots. Everyone other than her was fine, we even flagged a hostess on her way out to talk to our server about getting us our drinks and the server passed us twice before I had to flag her down to question her about where they were and ask for more water. She didn't even come by with more water, but someone else did (not sure if that's how it's handled here or not). The host DID check back with us on her way out (literally) to inform us that she told our server to come by for the drinks and talk to us about it. We both appreciated this immensely. Even one of the bus boys came by seeing if we needed to refill our water because I saw him in between the 2nd and 3rd time seeing her pass by us without any acknowledgement or glance in our direction. Due to my treatment here from the server completely neglecting us I will not come here again, nor rec to my coworkers and friends. The place is wonderful, and most were friendly but this was really crazy. I have never had this type of treatment prior. I'm not looking for some type of compensation from owner/management and will be contacting them with these details as well so they know and can handle their staff appropriately.

I rarely give all 5s across the board, but this restaurant right here deserves absolutely NOTHING less! So I went on Father's Day. There was a slight miscommunication in the beginning, but the staff and manager were very understanding and accommodating. No attitude, no rudeness, and only smiles. We were seated fairly quickly despite the circumstances (on my end, not theirs). Our server was PHENOMENAL! Once again, I don't use these words lightly. The staff was welcoming to my baby boy, the food was fresh, and my partner is a very picky eater, yet he was blown away. We had the appetizer platter; everything was WELL SEASONED, fresh, and came out hot and ready. Now, to my Caribbean people, when I tell you GET THE SORREL! I mean it! It reminds you of a Christmas dinner where it is nice and strong (not watered down at all like some of these other fake restaurants). For the main dish, we both got the Simpson biggie platter, and it was MIND BLOWING! You definitely could share it between two people, even if you are a big back, lol. We also had the macaroni 5 cheese, and when I tell you what they say about Jamaicans not knowing how to make pie is a lie if you eat it from here. We ended it off with desserts, which were the Jamaican rum cake and the chocolate lava cake. My partner definitely indulged a little too hard in his rum cake and quoted, 'Now this is definitely Jamaican rum cake.' From start to finish, the food and service kept getting better and better. There is a gratuity added into the check, if that is important to anyone. But the atmosphere, staff, ambiance, and location all work hand in hand. From the greeting staff, management, 'busboy,' and bartender, it was professional, and you can definitely tell they understand the concept of 'one hand washes the next.' We didn't feel rushed at all, and shout out to our new babysitter, lol, that seen a moment to make it even more memorable by asking if we would like a picture together. She didn't know it, but it's actually our first picture as a family. So thank you, thank you, thank you. Highly appreciated and recommended restaurant.

I came here for my birthday and the food was amazing. With that being said, I was definitely disappointed in the service. My servers name was Des(z), She did nothing wrong personally, but I can tell she was extremely overwhelmed. When we arrived, the minute we sat down she was already waiting at the table and asked us what we wanted to order, the only issue is we had just sat down and didn’t have time to go over the menu. When we explained that, she anxiously tapped her leg and walked off with her eyebrows curled up, and my partner expressed to me that he thinks we made her upset. We began looking through the menu, discussing the beauty of the restaurant and going over what we wanted to eat for the night when she came back maybe 2 minutes later. We explained that we were still looking at what we wanted when she cut me off mid sentence and said “I need yall to hurry, your foods going to take a long time” as she tapped her leg anxiously again. She wasn’t rude while speaking- but you can tell she was extremely anxious, her demeanor was if she was in despair. When she left, my partner and I briefly discussed the discomfort in being rushed as by this time, we were only seated for maybe about 6-7 minutes. She came back maybe about 3 minutes later, I was ready to order but my very indecisive partner was still trying to choose a drink (annoying, trust me i know.) when I explained that to her, she slapped her leg, shook her head and said “Guys, Ima need your order all at once” again, I didn’t get a rude vibe from her, just very anxious to get it done. she looked very worried. Finally, she comes back and I tell her what drinks we want and I tell her we will start with appetizers to which she cuts me off and tells me “I can’t take your orders throughout the night, I need you to tell me everything you want for the night. It’ll flow like normal and come out one by one, But you have to make your entire order now” this through us off because usually, when you arrive at a restaurant you are able to chat for a little, glance over the menu and then go over what you’d like to start with. At this point we had only came in, took turns using the restroom, and looked at the drinks and appetizers while discussing the ambiance of the restaurant. When she left, we went over the entire menu quickly at this point because we can tell she was growing very anxious. When she finally returned, she anxiously said “TELL ME!!!” with a very worried look on her face, and so because of that, I became anxious. I began saying the order very fast, as she waved her hand in the motion of “hurry up”, I was saying the order so fast it sounded like we were at an auction as she anxiously waved for me to hurry, Once she took the order she literally ran off. My partner expressed to me that he realized her pressure was rubbing off on me, and said he didn’t like that interaction because we were both literally speeding through the menu to take the order. I was so nervous to not mess up because of how she was acting, I felt the pressure to get the order right so that it doesn’t mess up anything she had going on. lWhen the food arrived, we ate as normal but i realized it got to a point, the food wasn’t flowing as she said it would, it was piling up. Within 20 minutes we had our appetizers , main meals and dessert piling on one another as the tables are small. usually, when you go to a restaurant , you order your appetizers, you eat, they come take the dishes that are no longer being used as you order your main meal and so on. At the simpson, nobody ever came to take the dishes. and because we ordered everything at once, everything came at once. Drinks and appetizers came out at 9:47pm, the main meal came out at 9:51, we barely got to dig into our appetizers before the main meal came. dessert came out at 10:12. Our table had all the drinks we wanted for the night + main meal, dessert and 2 appetizers, it was overcrowded. We were out the door by 10:30. We spent under an hour there. The experience felt rushed. Like they needed us to hurry out so...

I wish you guys the best with longevity here at the corner of Atlantic Ave near Portland in...

I'm not looking for some type of compensation from owner/management and will be contacting them with these details as well so they know and can handle their staff...
