I could not wait to get out of this salon to write a review. They try to force you to get services more expensive than the ones you intended to get. It is very unfortunate because although my experience was not so great, my daughters did have a good experience. My daughters’ nail techs were very nice to them. My girls loved the fact that they had free snacks. My nail tech Sandy was very rude to me and was trying to force me to get a fill-in on a hard gel set I have been getting fill-ins on since April. I expressed to Sandy that I had recently got an incision on one of my fingers near my cuticle and I just wanted to allow it to heal without anything on my nails. She still insisted that getting a fill-in was the best thing. I came in for a regular manicure (no polish)/pedicure, and a hard gel removal. It seemed as if that was not enough for Sandy and I should probably spend a little more money on a more expensive service. Whenever I would say anything she would screw up her face and talk to her coworkers in their language. You know when someone is talking about you because now everyone is looking at you. Sandy was very rough doing my manicure. As I reiterated to her that I had an incision on my finger and to be gentle, not only did Sandy proceed to clip at the incision but once again screwed up her face and had something to share with her coworkers. I have never been so anxious at the nail salon. I was at the edge of my seat the entire time. Sandy was only respectful to me, up until the very end of my service, to convince me to get a new hard gel set or even a powdered manicure, after I had already said no. Sandy had no regards for my situation and it made me very unhappy. I will not come back to Aurora Nail Salon, for the same reason I left my last nail salon… Forcing higher priced services than what you intend on getting. Not to mention, not only did they charge $25 for hard gel removal… the hard gel was not removed all the way. I hate that one bad apple spoiled the bunch. I am sure there are some amazing nail techs here...
Read moreI don't usually leave reviews, but I was very impressed by Aurora Nail Spa. Firstly, their gel nail extensions are so solid! I'm someone who is busy with my hands, and can't stand being handicapped by brittle, longer nails. This was a brief summer splurge, and the nails came out so cute, shiny, and even-- but I was expecting these to pop off, break, or chip at multiple points.
I am pleased to report that they did not. They stayed strong when I was clawing through packed sand for a sandcastle. They were still sturdy while I was gripping a board on the waves. Didn't break while I was hauling heavy boxes. Not a chip while I was building a bookshelf. And so easy to clean-- the gloss coating even repels turmeric stains from curry. It's been a month, and although they're growing out, the gel extensions are still strong. I caught my nail painfully under a table just today-- it felt like the impact would have torn my whole nail bed off with how strong that glue still is.
Secondly, the spa experience. Clean, quiet, relaxing. Got the mani-pedi package with my partner. Nail biters, they will completely disappear your hangnails. The foot massage with oils was brief but skilful. I was falling asleep the entire time with how soothing it was. Even a little shoulder massage with your mani!
The staff were very accomodating as well-- i was indecisive about my color/design but they kindly walked me through the process, and even gave me a discount to realize my vision within my budget. The person who worked on my nails had over ten years of experience-- you're safe in...
Read moreI had a fabulous experience this weekend at Aurora. I recently moved just far enough away from my prior favorite nail spa, Mochi (which I was already becoming a bit disillusioned with due to long waits/difficulty getting an appointment and fewer color options than I'd prefer). I was looking for something closer to my new place in Downtown Brooklyn, just as good, and that had massage chairs for their pedicures. Check, check, check!
I've been to/checked out almost every nail spot in Cobble Hill and Downtown Brooklyn, and this was hands down far superior. The ambiance was perfect—quiet, relaxing music playing, beautiful, brand-new decor/appliances, and no one talking on speaker phone on their cell phones. Heaven! Plus, they had SO many colors to choose from.
The nail technician did an absolutely perfect job, gave a great massage as part of the spa pedicure, and was both efficient and cordial. They even had a chart of different nail shape options to choose from that was set out at every manicure chair. Afterward, she did a great job of my eyelash tint as well.
I was also very impressed by their machinery—the pedicure chairs are all brand new and even have built-in cell phone charging!
I think I've found my new...
