I stayed here for 10 days, spanning the last week of April into the first week of May 2025. While this property is impressive and there were certainly some bright notes, I would likely not stay here again—at least not at their room rates. I’m a fan of Four Seasons and Waldorf properties and feel they offer better value.||Pros:| • Newly renovated (completed November 2024, I believe)| • Stunning rooms with impeccable attention to design detail, comfort, material selection, and amenities| • Very friendly and attentive staff| • Great location, near museums and Central Park| • Spa experience was very nice| • Thoughtful gestures—birthday cake! (See below)||Cons:| • Exorbitantly expensive| • Construction on the residences above the hotel was not disclosed at check-in; I had to change rooms, which cost me half a day| • Nespresso machine in my suite didn’t work, and neither did the replacement | • Water pressure in the shower was poor in the first room, though better in the second||The most frustrating part of my stay was the construction noise directly above my bed during the first two days, starting very early in the morning. Banging, hammering, sawing, and loud conversation were constant—not at all what one expects during a luxury hotel stay, especially when dealing with jet lag. For a guest spending thousands per night, a quiet, restful environment should be a given—particularly on a 10-day stay.||I raised the issue with the front desk and was referred to Amal, the manager, who left a voicemail offering to speak. After three attempts to meet in person (he was in meetings or unavailable), we finally connected. Amal was sincerely apologetic and offered me a comparable room two floors down. I accepted and moved rooms—but unfortunately, this process cost me half a day of my time in NYC. I wish someone had considered the noise when assigning my suite on the 10th floor during check-in.||I booked a 90-minute massage at the spa, which, while small, was well-appointed and relaxing. The rock salt wall room was peaceful before and after the treatment. My massage therapist, King, was excellent—highly skilled and professional. He genuinely helped alleviate some of the stress from the earlier room situation. (One minor issue: the treatment room was next to the spa bathroom, so every 10–15 minutes, you could hear a toilet flushing—not ideal for relaxation - a real space planning flaw.)||The Nespresso machine debacle in my suite was, frankly, absurd. At these prices, everything should be checked to ensure it works—full stop. On my first morning, I just wanted a quick coffee before heading out, but the machine didn’t work. A quick Google search showed the blinking red light likely meant it needed descaling. The plug was inaccessible behind the large beautiful amenity armoire that housed it, so I called for complimentary coffee, which was delivered 45 minutes later. This delayed my morning by an hour.||Later, the machine was replaced—only for the second one to also malfunction the next day. Another round of coffee and another delay. Did they not check the replacement?? By the third day, a new machine was installed, and finally, it worked. For a Deluxe Suite at nearly $3,000 per night, this simply shouldn’t happen.||Front door staff were generally friendly and usually greeted me by name. However, one younger gentleman repeatedly asked if I was dining at Cara Mia (the very popular on-site restaurant) every time I walked in or out during the first few days. After the fifth day, with a smile I gently said, “No, actually, I’m a guest here,” hoping he’d remember me—but he asked again the next day and the next…It wasn’t a huge deal, but it felt a little off-putting. I’m not that memorable I guess. Oh well.||Towards the end of my stay, on just one of the days, there were no water bottles in my room when I returned. It took two calls to housekeeping and one to the front desk and over an hour to get some sent up. Over an hour for some water? Yes.||Now for some positives:||A highlight: the team discovered it was my birthday (likely from the spa intake form), and I returned that afternoon to find a small but beautiful birthday cake waiting in my room—a thoughtful surprise. Many staff members, from housekeeping to front desk, greeted me by name and with “Happy Birthday,” which was a lovely touch.||Housekeeping staff were exceptional—always warm, cheerful, and genuinely kind. I found myself looking forward to seeing them in the halls!||The rooms are truly beautiful—next-level. As someone who works in interior design, I was impressed by the material selections and pairings, furnishings, design details and overall layout. The color palette and stone choices in the bathroom were impeccable. Soft-close pocket doors operated perfectly and smoothly, as they should in a five-star property. Kudos to the design team—this aesthetic was a key factor in my booking the hotel.||I do appreciate the staff’s efforts to resolve issues as they arose. But again, at The Surrey’s price point, those issues shouldn’t happen in the first place. They detract from the...
Read moreWe stayed one night at The Surrey on September 15, 2025, with our 20-month-old daughter. We chose it because of its Corinthia affiliation (we’ve been loyal to Corinthia London for over a decade), and it exceeded every expectation.||From the moment we pulled up, service was exceptional. The bellman greeted us warmly, managed traffic so we could safely get our daughter out of the car, and handled our luggage with care. At check-in, the team was welcoming and thoughtful. They even arranged for one of our rooms to be ready early so our daughter could nap — something no other U.S. hotel has ever offered us. A manager also brought over a Surrey-branded toy for our daughter, which she has carried around ever since.||The room itself was one of the best we’ve experienced in New York. Tasteful, modern décor, excellent lighting design, and one of the most comfortable beds we’ve found in the city. The bathroom was large, beautifully finished, and clearly designed with both function and aesthetics in mind.||Housekeeping and room service were efficient, professional, and respectful. Everything about the staff reminded us of why we love Corinthia London: polished and personal. Checkout was just as smooth as arrival — valet had the car ready, stanchions set up so we could safely load our daughter and luggage, and the front desk team sent us off with genuine warmth.||The only area that fell short was Casa Tua, the on-site restaurant. Breakfast service was slow, the hostess dismissive, and the staff seemed overwhelmed. It took over 10 minutes just to get a highchair, and simple items like water and milk for our daughter were forgotten. The food was fine but unremarkable. My recommendation would be to enjoy the hotel for its rooms and service, but plan to eat elsewhere — New York has no shortage of great options nearby.||Overall, The Surrey is a rare find in New York: thoughtful hospitality, excellent rooms, and staff who truly care about the guest experience.||We have found our new preferred hotel...
Read moreWe tried hard to love it. The hotel is stunning with great attention to detail. Location is great but they need to work out the kinks. Some they know about such as impossible to read elevator buttons and ac controls in room. Service was always pleasant but inconsistent. One night we got chocolates but never again. We got ice sometimes at turndown. We booked using chase travel portal which gives room upgrade, american express and $100 credit. When we checked in no upgrade which i didnt expect but we booked a grand delux room and probably got the worst room in that category, tiny and a view of the air conditiong shaft. I would have expected at least a better room in that category. They did offer to move us the next day ( we arrived after a very delayed flight at 1am) but my wife had already unpacked everything and it was too much a hassle. They said they didnt give us an upgrade as hotel was full first night but seemed confused when i said but why would you then give us probably one of your worst rooms? Breakfast was great until the next to last day when our orders were totally screwed up. In fairness they tried to make it right. The hotel welcome letter confirmed american breakfast was included but then said max $50 pp. However restaurant charges $58 for american breakfast. I told management they should either clarify and include american breakfast or a $50 credit or change the name on the menu. Also restaurant tips are not included in $50 credit even if you spend less. When i checked out they said the restaurant tips could not be used with my $100 credit but they would make a special exception. Finally the last day our shower flooded the entire bathroom as drain clogged. My wife asked about purchasing some of the products in the room. They promised to get back to her but never did. TV in gym did not work. They seemed surprised. Hopefully they will work out...
