I hate to do this but I can't believe what just happened...
I placed an order over the phone for pick up and was given an $87 quote, which seemed high for what I ordered. After hanging up, I double checked the math according to the prices on the menu I used, it was $24 less than what I was quoted. When I went to pick up, I asked about the receipt and difference in pricing to make sure he didn't hear me wrong or added something extra by accident. Biggest mistake I could've done. I got the nastiest reply from the man at the register. And I took the menu I used to show him and he immediately said "idk what menu that is, that's not our menu" and when I replied "oh, is this not your store name?" And showed him the logo with their address... he said "it's an old menu from like 6 weeks ago" .. 6 weeks ago!! We legit just got the menu in a bag YESTERDAY when my coworker went to buy tacos. Don’t understand why he was lying.
And I asked him if I could see the new menu and he said they didn't have any new menu that they distribute outside, just the in-house one. When I reviewed that one, the prices for the food items I ordered were $3-$6 more than what was on the menu I had (way overpriced, their "old menu" was normal expected prices for tacos). In hopes of good customer service I apologized that I had the "old menu" which we got from them directly in a bag when someone else ordered just yesterday. And asked if there's anyway he could honor the prices on the menu I had. Without saying anything to me first, he went to his order window and said "CANCEL THE ORDER". Super rude and caught me off guard. I would've paid the $87 had he just said "I'm sorry, but I can't honor the old menu politely." But instead he was rude and canceled the order without me asking him to. They had already prepared the food, I didn't come there with intentions not to pay the $87, I just wanted clarification as it obviously didn't make sense based off of the menu I had. A simple question regarding pricing turned into a horrible experience.
I only came here because I already had the menu and it's right across the street. If you have this menu save yourself the bad vibes (especially when you're hungry)... you can get better tasting Mexican cuisine AND better customer service at the many other Mexican restaurants...
Read moreTulcingo is the only Mexican Food I will eat (besides my own mother's of course). I have been eating at Tulcingo since it opened over 20 years ago. Back then I would stop into the deli side of the business and order a breakfast plate of chorizo con juevo with rice and beans and corn tortillas. Breakfast all those years ago made having to work on Saturday morning worthwhile. The little dining rom next door was quaint and clean and had the same great food. I used to order chicken mole enchiladas there. Then in 2016 I moved out of the neighborhood (Hell's Kitchen), and I did not eat at Tulcingo for a little over four years. Then I moved back into Hell's Kitchen,, during the height of the Covid Pandemic. After the city began to return to normal, I went back to Tulcingo and to my surprise thee little dining room had been remodeled into a beautiful, rustic, exposed-brick, and aesthetically pleasing dining room with a full bar that includes tempting tequilas from all over Mexico. This family run secret deep in the heart of Hell's Kitchen has amazing service. The food is impeccable YOU MUST TRY anything with MOLE on it! This is the real thing made from scratch. It should bottled and sold world-wide. It is that good. If you are in the mood for some nachos, I suggest the Nachos al Estilo Tejano (That's the Tex-Mex in me!!). The tacos de Bistec, Lengua, Al Pastor are all amazing. I can't go through the entire menu, and I won't because I suggest that when you are near 10th ave and the upper 40s, you drop in. Sit at the bar, relax with a double margarita, chips, salsa, and pick what you desire from the menu. When you walk up to the business, take the door on the right into the dining room. I am on my way there...
Read moreSimply the best Mexican food in NYC. Fresh, homemade, delicious. I ate there three times during my trip and loved all I ate and drank. Specifically:
Cochinita Pibil: The pork was tender and juicy and flavorful with a perfect amount of spice. I used the homemade corn tortillas to make little tacos and loved every bite Chicken Enchilada Mole: Fantastic. An absolute beautiful mole sauce with all the richness one might expect with a nice hint of spice on the backend. Menudo: Large chunks of tripe in a delicious red broth. Exactly what I needed to start my Saturday. Served with oregano, onion and lime, this is one of the best menudos I have had Micheladas: I was planing on having only one but it was so good, I chugged my first and had a second. Excellent blend of spice and savory. Coffee Tres Leches Cake: Could not believe how good this was. A perfect balance of sweetness with the coffee balancing it out perfectly.
I could go on and on about the food and drink (the guacamole is amazing) but I want to touch on the ambiance and staff. The restaurant is absolutely cute, creating a welcoming ambiance that is enhanced by Irma, Jesus and their team. I cannot stress enough how inviting the place is. I sat at the bar and chatted with Irma who is a wonderful, kind person. She was attentive to my needs, offered excellent suggestions without being pushy, and was fantastic to converse with. It's worth noting as well that numerous people in Hell's Kitchen stopped by to eat, drink, and wish Irma well.
This is now a place I will always make an effort to visit when I am in NYC, and I encourage...
