I don’t know how this place gets away with calling itself fine dining. Value is terrible. It’s expensive, but you expect expensive when eating in Manhattan. However I also expect edible. And that it definitely was not. I also expect some sort of service. But that wasn’t there either.
Let’s talk about what we ordered and received. We all ordered drinks and that was brought pretty quickly. I have to say it was the worst Mojito I have ever had. Nobody finished their cocktails in fact at the end of the meal there was a barely touched cosmopolitan on the table. It’s restaurant week and the they didn’t bother giving us that menu, someone in our group asked for it and they gave it to us. One option was $39 for an app and a sandwich or salad the second was for “The signature experience” at $125.
The latter started with a cup of champagne and crispy Tuna, (tiny portion but I’m ok with that) the cup of champagne was a $10 bottle of white wine not related to champagne. It was probably Sara Bee's from Trader Joe’s. Next it came with a steak au poivre or “rack of lamb” 3 measly lamb chops. The steak was overcooked and not very flavorful.
The sides fries, roasted cauliflower, or seasonal vegetables, were devoid of spices or salt. The dessert was really shocking most of us ordered Tiramisu. Nobody ate a second spoonful of it. It tastes like it was straight out of the freezer section of a corner grocery store. Overall the best food was the fries and best drink was the tap water.
Let’s talk about the service. There was no Maitre D. So we walked in and stood around until our waitress came to seat us. It was pretty empty but took a very long time to get any food. The waitress mixed up our order and started arguing with us about what we ordered. (After taking back the wrong thing she brought us 2 items, she added both to our bill) Not once throughout did the waitress ask how the food was, like I said it was pretty empty she didn’t...
Read moreEither my meal was an anomaly or the other reviews are friends of the owner. We just had a business lunch at UN Plaza Grill for 5. We were seated in a booth really meant for 4 that was quite cramped and uncomfortable. After 15 minutes we hadn't even been approached by a waiter, and I had to flag one down so that we could order. Our first course arrived 30 minutes later, after I complained. My matzo ball soup was barely warm, and the matzo ball tasted like it was made from a mix -- zero flavor, and I didn't eat it. The main courses arrived more quickly, and were mediocre at best. The fried steak in the steak milanese was slightly sour, and the pesto pasta it came with was ronzoni with a pre-made pesto sauce from a jar (I keep kosher and I recognize the one they use). In a supposedly upscale restaurant, would fresh pasta really be too much to hope for? The chicken the others ordered was, according to them ok. The table was cleared and it took more than another 30 minutes for the desert and coffee to arrive (my apple tart was barely warm and the ice cream on it had largely melted so it clearly sat for a while). Over all, we arrived at 12:15 and didn't leave until close to 3 -- a 2 hour and 45 minute lunch, with uncomfortable seating and truly abysmal service. I had such high hopes for this place, but unfortunately it is just another kosher restaurant that is phoning it in, and taking its clientele for granted. Any non-kosher restaurant with these prices and this level of service and food would close in a month. I will...
