Live above the shop and had a package marked as delivered that wasn't actually delivered, so I waited outside and asked the postman the next day and he said he hadn't delivered anything to my apts the last few days. Before he came, the owner of the shop happened to ask what the thing I was holding was (a piece of my broken delivery I happened to notice in the street!? So bizarre) and I was like weird, why would he want to know what it was? I messaged my roommate saying it was weird and my roommate said I was being paranoid. But when I spoke to the postman he took my info and I said my name, Ben, he said that's funny, that's the owner of the bike shop's name. And that's when it clicked - the postman, having delivered packages to Ben at 316 for years accidentally delivered my package to him and he just decided to throw it out instead of trying to actually get it to me like a good neighbor. SHADY. The shop seems nice, offering people free tire inflations and all, but I'm 98% he did what I suspect, so the day I do decide to get a bike (which will be relatively soon) it sure as hell won't be...
Read moreReally appreciate Ben and Andrea and Kickstand Bicycles (they are the shop haha 😆).
As others have said they take their time with you, don’t upsell, or talk down to you.
I have been getting my (14 year old) bike tuned up and taken care of here for at least 3/4 years. Parts replaced, upgraded etc.
Always feel welcome and comfortable going in and telling them my bike woes. Or asking what the deal is with something bike related getting clear explanations and getting bike smarter in the process.
I just encountered my first flat ever! I think it’s been 20 years of riding and never had to deal with this situation. Ben walked me through how to change and why it happened (knowing is important).
I’m ready to ride and I have Kickstand Bicycles to thank for keeping me going. Thank you Ben and Andrea.
TLDR; I recommend...
Read moreI visited nine bike stores across Manhattan and Brooklyn in search of bikes for my wife and me. It was our first time bike shopping, and neither of us were very knowledgeable regarding the landscape of different options. Ben and Andrea were a godsend. By far the best bike store in New York City, with a homey feel. They were helpful and honest and gave us genuine advice; they weren't trying to sell us anything. We went there twice before we settled on a bike, and throughout the entire experience, I felt like I was buying bikes from friends. They also had a unique selection of bikes that included models well-suited for petite frames that they source from Asia (ask for the "mini velo," which works well for a variety of builds). I highly recommend this store to anyone interested in...
