I had previously given this place a 5 star review but after my experience today it has changed. I've been a customer for years, since I don't live nearby it's not that regularly however regularly enough that when I asked them to charge me extra & add extra milk to make a large matcha (yes, they technically only make one size but since I had gotten a large many times before) I didn't expect to get the kind of attitude where I was made to feel like I was asking for some unreasonable order. I got a lengthy explanation that the owner doesn't allow them to make large size matcha and the barista making the drink gave me attitude. Is this really that outrageous? I've worked retail counters many years and yeah, you usually give the customer what they want if its not some ridiculous time wasting order. I made a joke about it on my social media only to have the owner (or whoever manages their instagram account) call me a "karen" (how clever that you thought of that! Why, that's SO original!) and then tell me they "prefer i don't come back" No, sir, I won't be back to buy matcha or any of the soft drinks or snacks, or anything else I've spent money on there for YEARS. You got your wish, was it worth it really? I mean, being a person who always tries to support local small businesses, it's bizarre to have the owner of a business calling a customer names just for wanting to spend money there. By the way, the previous 5 star review was given after they had whined on social media about unfairly getting bad reviews. I wanted to show support for a business I liked. But I get the bad reviews now. Won't make the mistake of going there again, there's better places. xoxo Karen. UPDATE: it seems that the owner lies just to get the last word in. I have never been rude to ANY of the baristas or store employees. Yes I asked them to make a large size matcha and paid extra for it and they did many times. I've always been nice to counter staff, having worked in the retail industry many years. As for the "vulgar" post he claims I made, it was a clip from the movie Five Easy Pieces where Jack Nocholsons character tried to order toast from a rude waitress that wouldn't serve him toast because it wasn't on the menu. If that's "vulgar" then so be it. I've also bought many other drinks there without asking them to change anything so is it really "entitlement" if a customer asks for a...
Read moreMy big bro (he's a model) and I stopped in here to get some fuel before hitting the track, as these days no breakfast tops a black coffee and a croissant.
Upon entering and getting caught in a flash flood of natural light, I realized Upstate Stock is like a specialty grocery store, trinket shop, Medmen, clothing store, and coffee shop all blended into one. Great vibe... rolling with Big Bro (model) he's just going to put you on some great spots.
I got to the front of the coffee line, and noticed a pretzel croissant. I had never seen such a beautiful fusion of 2 seemingly contradictory pastries. This is the kind of innovation that makes me optimistic about the future of mankind.
My only cause for hesitation was the pretzel croissant was a TANK, and I didn't want to be bogged down on the track as I needed to impress Big Bro. I left it up to the croissant gods and asked the barista "Is the Pretzel Croissant good?"
She responded "Idk, I've never had it to be honest." Damn. I wanted any kind of reason to pull the trigger on it, but nonetheless, the croissant gods had spoken.
As always, I got an iced americano and a butter croissant. Quality. Honestly this was a top 5 croissant I've had in the city, but it's not touching C&B over in Alphabet City. The clear #1 seed.
When we were in line, one of the baristas asked if we wanted a free iced oat milk latte, as they had accidentally made an extra one. I thought that was so sweet, as usually baristas will just throw it out. A great touch.... Big bro said no though because it had too much sugar. Did I mention he is a model?
On the way out, I almost bought a New Yorker puzzle but didn't want big bro to judge me and think I'm a dork. I think I need to be more comfortable being myself, but I'm really shy.........
NEXT TIME IMMA WORK UP AN APPETITE BEFORE I COME AND BODY THAT PRETZEL CROISSANT!

Read moreMy husband and I are visiting several coffee stores all over New York. We made a stop to try some espresso and see the eco friendly retail section too. We travelled specifically in from mid town.
Why the bad review?
As soon as we came in the staff did not great us or offer any help as we weren't sure of some options and the origin of the espresso (as we are coffee enthusiasts) in every other shop we visited including all third wave coffee stores this was not the case, even a smile would of been okay.
Then as we went into the retail section, everything was very high priced, I feel as though the image was elitist instead of access able to those who want to make a difference.
I was trying to find a soft drink as I am taking an allergic reaction to certain sodas in New york but the server just stared at me fed up looking and said nothing. A lot of the products had Cbd in them but this was not labelled enough, the signs were faded.
Finally after we bought two small items, my husband went to the counter, the serve began to be completely rude, out of order, rolling her eyes and was just being totally disrespectful. It was as if they were looking down on us because we were tourists.
The purpose of this review is to appeal to management and usually I would let things slide but this experience today was so bad. Our morning was ruined because of the attitude of the staff and we felt so. Disrespected. We want to supper independent coffee roasters or stores BUT If the store has a certain look or opinion or branding or vibe this DOES not excuse snobbiness, rudeness or lack of any kind positive customer service.
We will not...
