Novelty Burger & Bar — Restaurant in Newark

This place is always an option for a quick bite to eat. Burgers are pretty good. The novelty sauce is amazing. My take-out experience is always seamless.

However, I decided to dine-in on a Friday night. I will say it was about an hour and a half before closing. Maybe that contributed to me having to get up, after 15 minutes of sitting, to grab someone to serve our table. There was a large party of about 10 who consumed two of the hightop tables that could have possibly thrown her into the weeds, however, the service was horrible and the server was noticing tipsy/drunk. Other than that, there were two or three other tables besides ours and a few people sitting at the bar. Totally manageable if you are sober. I’m all for a good time, but at 5 months pregnant, I really just want my food in a timely manner. She kept apologizing, which is nice but proper service would have been better. In the end, she did not make my boyfriend pay for his beer that he waited a half hour for and only received because he got up to ask someone else (a person was behind the bar but not really taking orders.). So we shouldn’t have even been charged for it nor should it have even been mentioned but she said she didn’t charge because she “felt bad”.

Anywho, music was great. Basketball games were on but I will stick to calling in my order and picking it up from here on out. The dine-in service...

With the line to Dinosaur BBQ well out the door for the Devils season opener, my friend and I wandered just a few doors further down and walked into a nearly empty (at the time) Novelty Burger. Disclaimer: it filled up fast shortly after we sat.

They have a special event menu for when there's things going on at the Prudential Center, but it's still got a good selection. No substitutions allowed, which I'm also fine with. I ended up going with the fried chicken sandwich. The portions were absolutely massive - the first thing I thought was "no way am I finishing this". That changed quickly after I tasted it. It was steaming hot, flavorful, and crispy. I love my fried chicken and this was a fantastic sandwich. As a side, the fries were crispy and plentiful.

My friend got a burger that he also really enjoyed. I think I'll try a burger next time, but it's going to be hard to stop myself from ordering another chicken sandwich.

The food was good but the service was subpar on a very slow Wednesday afternoon. This was my first time here. I expected a host to greet and seat my party of 2 whenwe walked in. The workers just watched us walk by and find our own seat as they talked amongst themselves. A few minutes later, a waitress approached our And took our order. She brought our drinks right away though the burgers took a few minutes. By the time the burgers came, i had finished my soda but the waitress rushed off before i could ask for a refill. We never saw our waitress again and had to walk to the bar to get our bill. So as far as customer service, it could've been better. The burger was good. I had the novelty burger and cheese fries.
