Tortas Lokas — Restaurant in Newark

Today my wife and I went to Tortas Lokas for the first time and it definitely won’t be our last time! To start with, they were all following social distancing rules, they offered hand sanitizer and all employees were wearing masks. The restaurant is super clean and we loved the Mexican theme and decorations! Super colorful and lively! And now the food, of course. Absolutely A-M-A-Z-I-N-G! We are a big fan of Mexican food and we’ve tried it in different places, but this one was something else! You could taste the quality and the freshness of each ingredient! My wife is a burrito expert and she loved the burrito. Her tortilla had the perfect texture and the meat had very good quality. I eat a lot so I ordered a torta expecting something big, but when I got it a had an amazing surprise: it was not big, but HUGE!!!! I loved it! 😋 The perfect size and the perfect taste. My orange juice was also natural, perfect and refreshing for this hot weather! And of course, we had an AMAZING customer service! The lady (her name is FABIANE) is a superstar! 🌟 She had a smile on her face the whole time, super nice and friendly! She took care of us, super fast and attentive to bring the food, clean our plates, she also brought us more sauce and mayonnaise! She made us feel very comfortable and welcomed. I am incredibly disappointed with Torta Loka. My experiences with this place have been nothing short of frustrating.

First, I went there right when they opened at 10 a.m. to get a torta, only to be told they didn’t have any bread. How does a place known for tortas not have bread, especially at the start of the day? Another time, I called ahead to order birria tacos, again just after they opened, but they were out of them as well. It’s baffling how they can consistently not have key items ready right when they open.

Today was the last straw. I placed an order online because I had very little time for lunch. I showed up 20 minutes later at the scheduled pick-up time, only to be told that my order wasn’t ready because they had a big order come in. Apparently, my order wasn’t even started. I had no choice but to ask for a refund and leave, wasting my lunch break.

This level of disorganization and lack of basic customer service is unacceptable. I would not recommend Torta Loka to anyone. Stay away if you value your time and a reliable...

I had went here yesterday for my lunch break walked 15 minutes with hopes of receiving a good delicious hearty meal. I initially ordered the Birria tacos with the consume (soup) and they didn’t have the cosume and asked me if I would like to order something different. So I ordered their burrito bowl instead and upgraded it to Birria meat for an extra $3 in total I spent $19 with taxes included. I’ve never in my life eaten Birria meat and was not able to identify that it was just that. It was so dry, bland and didn’t even look like beef nor even taste like Birria. There was no sauce only extremely spicy salsas on the side. The beans were bland tasted straight from the can with no seasoning at all. The rice was very cold it tasted like if I came straight from the fridge over all it was absolutely disgusting.
