Have you ever loved a place so much that you fear sharing its amazingly delicious secret will ruin what makes it so special? That’s how I feel about this place! After living here a year and trying all the Newport and Middletown breakfast spots I can say - this is my most favorite of them all!
Let’s start with what makes breakfast such a delight to wake up to — the coffee!! And here the brew is extremely good. Coming from living in Italy I’m quite picky about a drip coffee and appreciate the bold flavors of this one that also doesn’t hurt my stomach after multiple cups. Served in a mug, hot and at the ready. It’s delicious.
What would a good cup of coffee be if it weren’t served with a smile and welcoming patience for me to savor? Forgetful. But not here! Unlike its competitors nearby this establishment will respect Your table whether you are one or 5- dining on coffee or the whole menu! I love that they don’t rush me, that I can take in the sidewalk entertainment and take my time figuring out what I want, and when it’s served and done I’m not rushed out but instead offered more coffee!
Eventually a hungry tummy needs to be satiated and the chef here knows how to feed morning cravings like no other place in town! Flavorful breakfast sandwiches with creative offerings like spicy chicken in addition to the usual breakfast meats keep you wanting to come back. Luscious French toast with cheesecake, strawberry options galore make you salivate and debate with family which tempting item you’ll finally choose. One can’t overlook the many Lorraine Grilled Breakfast specialities, the Benny’s and the long list of sandwiches. Adult foodies will Be more than satisfied with the options and kids will find safe selections to nurture a picky palette.
What’s got to be highlighted are the happy, warm and upbeat attention that the staff provide. I never feel a bother, and in the brief time visiting already feel local to this morning spot.
So there it is - finally an admission to the breakfast place that’s stolen my heart in Newport and surrounding areas. I can’t wait to bring my mom here and all our friends. For now - I’ll savor the small sized establishment and it’s low key vibe because no doubt the best things are often the most discovered, savored and frequented. I just hope for my sake I can always be welcome and not rushed - because as a local that’s what one really needs in a town that’s infiltrated with tourists! So far this place seems to know who’s here for the long haul and they’re servicing it right to locals...
Read moreMy wife went to get some take out from this restaurant. She brought our daughter in her stroller. From the get go, the lady behind the counter was rude. When she received her order, my wife asked for a fork since they gave her a caesar salad instead of the wrap she ordered(trying not to make a big deal of the mistake). Apparently that was a step too far because the lady proceeded to berate her, telling her she didn’t need a fork since she ordered a wrap. The lady then proceeded to dig through her order bag to unveil… surprise, a salad instead of the wrap. Maybe this business just doesn’t like tourists, women with babies, people with different skin tones from there’s, or they’re just super protective of their forks? I don’t really know. However, what I do know is that a business in the service industry survives on the quality of service it provides as well as the quality of food. Unfortunately the food is not good enough to make up for that kind of experience. Couldn’t recommend this place in good conscience to anyone.
Edit: I appreciate the response. Very bold of you to use my wife’s name, but tact seems to be a quality lacking in person and behind a keyboard as well. What I don’t appreciate about your response, is the complete lack of ownership of the experience she had. “It was hectic part of the day”, “I’m sorry your wife was unhappy with her experience…”, etc. Perhaps you were just having a bad day and it bled through to your interaction with a random person supporting your establishment. Perhaps you treat all your customers this way, but based on your reviews I would say that this isn’t the case. As you said to err is human, and please consider yourself forgiven. However you also only get one chance to make a first impression. Yours was made loud and clear that you did not need our business now, and won’t in the future.

This down-to-earth kind of vibe is rare in Newport of all places, and it lent itself well to warmly welcoming in the new year.
First off, we had NO WAIT on New Year’s Day! I thought that was unheard of, but boy, we we were lucky that we hit it right because after grabbing a table for 4, the place filled right up. One waitress was running the whole restaurant and she killed it—she was good-humored, fast, and always checked in with us and all her tables to see if we had everything we needed.
The flavors here are fantastic. You’d be correct if you guessed they’re cooking just about everything from scratch. The cauliflower parsnip bisque was divine and the soups change up every day so you have plenty of choices. The southwestern grilled cheese frittata on multigrain is the way to go. The sandwich is HUGE and packed with goodness. How many breakfast places offer you manchego cheese on a sandwich?? (Now, that being said, why can’t more places follow Scratch’s example!?)
Here’s the most important piece of advice for you when going here...*do not skip out on getting a side of spud nuggets!!! * They’re mini bricks of hashbrowns that are fried golden brown and heavenly. I’m thinking there may be some garlic and rosemary in there heavenly hashbrowns, but I can’t confirm. Whatever you do, make sure...
