A Disappointing Experience at Oishi in Newtown, PA
My recent visit to Oishi in Newtown, PA left much to be desired, and I feel compelled to share my unfortunate experience. From mediocre food to unwelcoming vibes, our time at this establishment was far from pleasant.
Let's start with the food. The sushi, touted as a specialty, was nothing more than average. The flavors were lackluster, and the presentation left much to be desired. To add insult to injury, our culinary adventure came to a screeching halt when we discovered a hair in our sushi. Needless to say, this was a major turn-off and cast a shadow over the entire dining experience.
The atmosphere was equally disappointing. From the moment we walked in, it was evident that we were not welcome. The stares we received from both staff and fellow patrons were uncomfortable and made us feel out of place. Our server, in particular, was far from friendly and displayed impatience throughout our meal. It's disheartening to spend money on a meal only to be met with such lackluster service.
What's even more concerning is the possibility that our negative experience may have been fueled by religious discrimination. Despite being local residents and living in the neighborhood, we couldn't shake the feeling that our presence was not appreciated. It's disheartening to think that, in the 21st century, people could still be stigmatized based on their religion. This kind of behavior is unacceptable and goes against the principles of inclusivity and diversity that should be upheld by any establishment.
In conclusion, Oishi in Newtown, PA, failed to deliver on multiple fronts. The subpar food, unfriendly service, and the unwelcome atmosphere overshadowed any potential positives. It's a shame that in today's world, some establishments still perpetuate discriminatory attitudes, hindering the progress towards a more inclusive and...
Read moreThis used to be a good restaurant. Now, it's overrated and commercialized to its core.
Food was very "stiff" and tasted like it had been made hours ago, put into a refrigerator, and then served to us.
Since our last visit (two or so years ago now), the service has somehow gotten WORSE (staff are overworked, and there aren't enough people to cover both the main dining room and the tacky "bar" that they added).
About the bar- it ruins the experience because a) the servers are busy both bartending and serving guests, which diluted the experience and made wait times considerably longer, and b) the establishment is no longer BYOBâ or, it is, if you want to pay $15 per bottle you bring... it's a joke.
On top of these already bad things, the servings have shrunk considerably and the prices have skyrocketed! Everything that once made this restaurant such a great place to eatâ the once-unknown location (the plaza it is in once had two or three businesses open, total!) has been ruined by the "common demonimator" aspectâ it's become genericized and "trendy" because they know new customers will come to their establishment regardless. Instead of valuing the patronage of long-time customers like myself, this establishment instead decided to pander to the "trendy" crowd of people just looking for a casual bite, rather than a real, authentic Japanese restaurant experience. Never returning...
Read moreThis was an incredibly disappointing experience. Over the years, we've eaten at KO/Oishi several times and the quality of food/service has sadly deteriorated.
There was no one at the front desk when we walked in. It was lunch time and reasonably busy. We didn't mind waiting - but the person who finally acknowledged our presence was extremely curt and looked like she didn't want us to be there. There were no apologies for the wait - she slapped the two menus on the table and walked away. They appeared to be understaffed. The waiters were doing their best to keep up but service was quite slow.
To make matters worse, we also had issues with the food: Miso soup looked a little sad - 2 small pieces of tofu and nothing else (e.g., seaweed or other greens) Egg on gopdol was overcooked (but the rest of the dish was decent) No tobiko on the roll even though the menu clearly said so. Since we had specifically ordered that item for the tobiko, we pointed that out and were told that they didn't do that anymore but hadn't gotten around to updating the menu. No offer of something else.
Overall, we understand that the restaurant industry is getting more and more challenging. But if you cannot be bothered to make your customers feel welcome and appreciate their patronage, you will continue to lose business. We may give Omiza another try but will not be going...
