I'm a transplant from 30 years in Louisiana and have been holding off getting seafood because of 'back-home bias', but it was time for me to try and find some traditional fried seafood. Crab du Jour Cajun Seafood Charleston had good reviews and with 'Cajun' in the title I was hopeful for a little taste of back home. First impression was the staff was very friendly and welcoming, which is a good start. The store was clean enough but had an... all-you-can-eat Chinese buffet fit and finish, kind of hard to explain, but I came for Cajun flavor and not so much the atmosphere.
Strike one came when I asked if the fried fish basket was catfish (this is CAJUN food, right?) and was politely told that it's swai fish. You know, that fish which was marketed as 'Asian catfish' but FDA said you can't call it catfish? Yeah, no fried catfish.
OK, I'll try the 6 Fried Shrimp instead with the Cajun fries. The shrimp and fries had a pleasant peppery salty flavor, not so much Cajun, but spiced well. This was presented with individual serving packs of tartar sauce and cocktail sauce. OK, tartar isn't hard to make so pre-packaged isn't great for my evaluation. The tartar sauce was adequate. I may be wrong but the shrimp appear to be processed, as in from a bag and not breaded there that day. Frying takes a little skill, but the majority of Louisiana fried seafood places at least bread their own. That's a strike 2 then.
There was Tabasco easily available (Yea!) and Texas Pete (???) as well. What was very odd was the ketchup on my table was basically empty, so I grabbed the bottle on the table next to me which was basically empty as well, so I grabbed the bottle on the table on the other side next to me and it had a little more, but was still basically 7/8 empty. Finding ketchup shouldn't be that hard.
Overall I saw several people order what appeared to be low-country boil type plates which looked good, and if I ever went back that is something I would try, but as far as a Cajun/Gulf South type food it was not up to par with my...
Read moreThe lady manager is rude. Tonight I called back because we left the car key on the table. Instead of her trying to assist the first thing came out her mouth was the bus boy wouldn't throw the key in the trash. Asked if he could check and again being nasty said he didn't have to check if didn't want too. So when I got back me and my friends said we would check the garbage. So she said we had to go outside and she would bring out the bag. So we went out waiting for her. Now remember people had been eating in this bag of trash and throwing things in there, so why she brought the out without bring some gloves for us to search through the bag. Now I'm mad because you telling me you thought I had a plan. Yeah I did have a plan, to look for the key in the trash. She stood there while we flipped the trash around she even went as far to bring out the bus boy for him to say he didn't see a key. We kept looking because we knew the key was thrown away. Lift a napkin and what appeared but the key. The young man was very apologetic but the manager never apologized for being wrong or rude. Then to top it off, she gonna smirk and say have a good night. At this point I was furious and yelled out the F word, now she gonna tell me not to come back there anymore. Well tonight you lost 3 good customer that have been a faithful for 2 years. People was enjoying our company as we mix with the DJ on Fri and Sat nights. So I'm gonna tell my friend and they are gonna tell their friends until that female manager is gone. When I said I needed to speak to her manager, she said she was so I asked about the Chinesean there tonight. She said he is the owner and he don't speak English and wouldn't be able to understand me,but that a lye, because he addressed a Customer when the order was wrong and he was very nice and apologized for it. This lady will be your down fall of your restaurant. Very nice business but got the wrong...
Read moreWe decided to have our mom bday dinner here since she’s a seafood lover! Once there we had a party of 15 guest and once everyone was seated we had to wait for an hour to be served! About 45 mins of waiting I decided to get up and order a drink from the bar myself, and there is where I overheard two employees arguing about who’s going to take/serve our table which was very unprofessional and unpleasant!! I understand with big parties it’s easy to get things mixed up or incorrect but I have never experienced such Chaos some people didn’t even receive their orders! I ordered a mild bag combo d and the seafood was so fresh(no seasoning) I had to pour the salt and pepper on my food for seasoning! My husband ordered a xtra spicy crab bag and his bag was as fresh as mines! For $50 I expect more than 1 crab leg 8 overcooked shrimps (the shell was stuck to the shrimp) 2 potatoes and a piece of fresh overcooked corn in my bag for that kinda price! Not to mention the same women who I overheard arguing about who’s going to serve our table came and helped served and she was very rude my mom had to ask her if she was ok because she b slammed her plate so hard on the table! Overall I give our experience a 2 out of 10! The dj was nice and from what I saw the crew only sang happy birthday to whoever they wanted because my mother waited for them and unfortunately they never came to sing hbd 😢 most likely I won’t be back mainly because of food wasn’t up to par for me overpriced and not seasoned at all! Also s/o to our waiter Allen very patience and kind and to the young women name Teri please reevaluate your attitude it wasn’t pleasant nor was the argument about who’s supposed to...
