This place is always running out of stuff. I came in looked at the board that has the sold out stuff/items on it. There was nothing listed. So i ordered sat down for 5 mins then some kid comes up and says were out of what you ordered. So i walked up front to see what else they had. And as i was walking by the other guy and looked over and he was cutting up turkey. Ok but you just told me you have non. Whatever i get up front and the 1st kid now says there also out of brisket. He thinks? I said what do you mean you think? So i said what do you really have? There's nothing on the board. And the kid goes i think we have have most of everything else. I just said you know what just forget my order cancel it. Then elias or elijah the "shift leader" he made a big deal about that. So i said why is the out of items board blank? He says he didnt realize they were running low on product? And i said then Whys it not on the out of items board then? He didnt have any more excuses as to why. And i comment thats what that out of items board is for! and your the shift leader so i dont understand that and then he says yea this time of night we run low on items and i said THAT'S WHAT THE BOARDS FOR! And another thing it was pretty slow because i was talking to the kid up front and he told me they a couple bigger tables came in and not too many online orders either and i said wow your usually out of stuff. I was happy that they were slower so i knew they had all the items available.......nope all lies no food even after the order was placed and after i sat there for 5 mins. You know i work 11hrs a day and this is really becoming an issue here at this store. I live across the street and eat here a lot. Thats going to stop. And when i walked in the kid thats supposed to be at the register was way down at the end of the store sitting down in what i believe to a food prep area! That's not supposed to happen. Your not allowed to be sitting on or in food prep areas period. I am also going to complain to the health department tomorrow about unsanitary serving conditions due to the kid sitting all over the serving area when hes supposed to be at the register not sitting down on the end. Thats lazy and not were your supposed to at. And i gave him a tip! I usually dont do that but he was kinda nice and i mentioned i just finished my 11hrs long shift. Then all this happened. Now lets also bring up the stores driveway ......There are some serious pot holes in the drive way by appollo burgers and your store. Ive almost popped my tire in the potholes there massive! Who owns the property! You need to fix this also. And im going to call bountiful city and complain about the parking lot craters and see if i can get them to come out. And my next door neighbor is a bountiful code enforcement officer. So at this point once i find out who owns this property im going to request you/them/they fix your pothole issues. If not i just wont come in here anymore and just tell my neighbor to come down and look at your parking lot potholes. You know the ones by the dumpster that has a open swinging door thats almost hit my car as i passed by many times and apparently your employees cant just seem to keep it closed. I loved sugar house bbq and there out of business and this is my only option for decent smoked meats. So sad because they cant seem to keep this place running smooth. And i will be be in store tomorrow to talk to the manager in person. Its my day off! Nice gonna go down and have a little talk to the manager. And waste more of my time here. Im in customer service and i have 32yrs experience in retail and this is the last...
Read moreI got the three meat plate for 17.99, (with an upcharge of 2.50 for brisket. The positive: The brisket, spicy andouli sausage, and pulled pork were all very fresh tasting. The smoke on the outside of the meat looked great, and wasn't overpowering to the taste. The brisket was soft, mid in flavor and pleasing to eat. The sausage wasn't rubbery, overly chewy, and there was a good distinction in texture from the outside and inside. Soft with a good snap and a full flavor. The pulled pork wasn't overly fatty, soft yet firm enouph to bite into without being a mush. The best part of the meal on my opinion from texture, appearance, and overall flavor. The fries were also great, the surprising actually. The seasoning was great and the texture was overcooked or old and dry from a heat lamp. The fry sauce was also great, not overly fancy with too many ingredients, just enouph to enhance the fries the way fry sauce is supposed to. The bbq sauces were also all great, not overpowering of any of the meats drowning everything out, great flavor enhancers that gave a great extra layer to everything. Fruity, bold, spicy, not to thick or to runny, great spicing and all around enjoyable every bite. The service at the counter was very minimal but good overall, and the list of food with allergies listed was very helpful and a smart move. I didn't have to ask what did or didn't have things I was allergic to, it was right there. Big thumbs up for that. The negative: The rolls were a bit old, and we're lacking in soft texture and flavor. Definitely not fresh and actually held back how good the pulled pork was. I do have to say bread in this climate dries fast but that's why it has to be fresh rolls, or kept in a humidity controlled rack, but this isn't exactly a bakery either. The manager seemed a bit rude to the employees, while sitting down not doing much herself. There are no onion rings but it is listed on the menu. There are no eating utensils! It was a bit odd not even having an option for a fork. I would bring some plastic ones at least from home if I would have known I was expected to eat everything with my hands. Am I supposed to drink the baked beans and suck up the macaroni? And lastly the portions aren't great. 3 small slices of brisket when I'm forced to pay extra for it. 24.88 in total, and half of it was all fat I left on the tray. Not a fair portion for the price.
Overall I would return for the quality of the food, it won't be often though for the portion sizes being too small. A great place to go to and I would recommend it for anyone looking for a new place to go, or looking for bbq that is good in quality but not for...
Read moreUpdating my review of R&R since there's no way to post a new one on google apparently:
Went on Labor Day (yesterday) for lunch. Was very disappointed in my meal. I got the Brisket (Chopped) and it was very fatty. Gross. Ordered a side of Garlic Mashers (as part of the 1 meat platter) and they were way more spicy then I expected mashed potatoes (with garlic) to be. Do they add jalapenos to these? My brother ate lunch with me and said his brisket was also very fatty and his chicken thighs (as part of the three meat platter) were extremely dry. We didn't even finish our meal that's how bad it was.
The restaurant was pretty empty for lunch (went around 2 p.m I believe). No wait. How they are following COVID protocols (or not) is unclear as part of the staff was wearing masks, but the person taking our order (and a few other employees) were not.
There fork machine was out of forks so had to wait a while to eat our food for that reason.
I will likely not be back. You've disappointed me twice R&R. Should I do three strikes your out? Not currently planning on a return.
Prior Review from a year ago (3 stars): Went last Friday Night. The wait was quick (it's line service). The place was pretty crowded. There were no individual tables available so we had to share with another family that was eating. We ordered the two meat plate. The Brisket was very good. The Smoked Sausage was not good at all. It didn't even taste done all the way through. It was reheated at home on the stove top the next day and that didn't make it taste any better. The Hush Puppies were dry adding honey (which you have to ask the counter for) helped. The Mac and cheese tasted good.
Pros: Short Wait, Yummy Brisket, Good Max & Cheese
Neutral: I thought the sauces tasted fine, but my wife thought even the mild sauce (I can't remember the name) was too spicy.
Cons: Crowded - no table space and loud - it was hard to hear them when they said our food was ready, Gross Sausage. Pricey - seemed expensive for two meats and one of them wasn't good. Also why ask for a tip (upon ordering) when it's not table service?
I'd probably return to see if the other meats and sides are good, but don't order...
