Wanted to try this place based upon the reviews, and the fact that it's not far from our house. We love good Mexican food and drinks.
The staff was super friendly, and the restaurant was clean. The staff was always cleaning tables and wiping things down and sweeping in between customers which I appreciate.
We ordered the parillada to share and the sopa de albondigas. The parillada had a nice selection of chicken, carne asada and a skewer of shrimp. It's also served with a large baked potato topped with Mexican cheese and bacon and chorizo. It was served with homemade fresh flour tortillas.
My wife had this sopa de albondigas, which was large. The broth was tasty. It had chayote, potatoes, carrots and zucchini with a nice selection of sides like rice, salsa, and onions and cilantro. It was decent, but the meatballs were a bit bland. Still it was filling and pretty good.
The food was quite tasty, but I must say that the steak was the toughest I have ever had from a restaurant. And I eat out a LOT. I mean, it was difficult to cut with the knives they provided, you had to pull it apart like carne seca. It was very difficult to chew.
My chief complaint is about the drink prices. They have a huge selection of liquors behind the bar, but they only offer a "house margarita" made about five different ways with different flavors. That's the first red flag. No high-end margaritas listed. So, I ordered a margarita with Don Julio and they simply used mix from a bottle that tasted like a basic $5 margarita. But because I asked for Don Julio, they marked it as a premium top shelf margarita... which I don't mind... but they charged me $22! It wasn't some fishbowl-sized margarita with 4 straws sticking out of a plastc pail. This was a regular sized margarita. That was literally the most expensive margarita I think I have ever purchased in my life - like Vegas prices!
I really like to support small businesses, and I don't mind a slight upcharge from some of them because I hate the chain restaurants, but these prices are astronomical for what you get. Especially in Northglenn. It's not like we're in downtown Denver!
Anyway, if you stick to tacos and drink soda or iced tea I think you'll be fine. Just be careful what you order, or ask for the...
Read moreI've been wanting to visit this place for some time now. Originally, this was supposed to be a sister restaurant of one located on Washington and Eppinger Street. La Patrona is a theme restaurant promoting women's sense of self-worth. All of its decor and color schemes are promoting girl power. It's cute, but it kind of looks like a preteens bedroom. The menu had a wide variety of choices. The pizza birra was original. We ordered the birria tacos, frijioles charros, and the camarones a la diabla (deviled shrimp) an agua fresca de cucumber/lime and a fountain soft drink. The shrimp was served on a massive 18" plate. The tacos and beans were top-notch. The aguas fresca was too watered down (no pun intended,) the soda was flat. The shrimp plate was very good. It came with Spanish jasmine rice, refried beans, and a very large portion of shrimp, with fresh flour tortillas. The beans had chicharrones on top (pork rinds.). My wife didn't really care for that. The service was okay. I asked the server to explain the tabletop mural. It had Shakira and a slogan stating, "Women don't cry, women cash in." Reluctantly, she explained that it was a song of the artist, but it went with their theme. At one point, the table next to us had a family of four. Everyone got their food at separate times. One was halfway into their meal while another was still waiting for their's. That was troubling to watch. We spent about $35 per person. The restaurant is very congested. They have a massive bar that nobody sits at, and tables all clumped together. I still highly recommend visiting, but it's pricey, so I can't see anyone being a regular. If you're an alcohol drinker, they have a large selection of spirits, just be prepared to pay...
Read moreI have loved this spot for ages. It has great food, and every time I’ve gone in people have been kind and courteous. However I will not be returning in the near future. I have just tried to place an order through the phone with them, since online ordering was closed even though the restaurant closes at 9:30 PM. I’m a local, I live nearby and this was a favorite pickup spot of me and my fiancés. However, this experience has left a very sour taste in my mouth. After calling to order, I was greeted by a representative who then promptly hung up on me. I have called over five times now all the way through to the voicemail, and in the sixth call was just sent through to voicemail and hung up on immediately. I understand being too busy in house to take other orders, but not even having the decency to TELL me that over the phone is ridiculous. It is sloppy customer service, absolutely immature behavior, and nowhere near that befitting a business. To be treated so rudely by a place I genuinely cared about and frequented often is crazy. I don’t even write these reviews, this is actually my first Google review ever because of how shocked and appalled I was at this treatment. Like, the service is so bad it literally motivated me to start my google review career. I understand being busy, but wasting my time and energy like that is incredibly rude and I will not be returning...
