I never review any restaurants poorly or at all in general but this one crossed the line. The food from the place was ok. Things were out of stock on a Saturday night during prime service, and the waiter was a nice waitress. Getting our food was a little longer due to it being a Saturday night, but that was not the issue. The problem with this place is the management and lack of communication to its customers is horrendous. My friends and I were a party of over 8 , so in this case 20% gratuity will be applied according to the menu. As we payed the bill with the correct amount of money it was soon discovered that since we payed in two separate checks, the gratuity was not applied, yet we were not informed.
Instead of being informed nicely and accordingly, a lady (possibly a manager or owner) came up to us very rudely and with a attitude saying we needed to leave more money for a tip because her worker worked āvery hard for usā and leaving no tip is ānot okā Keep in mind the food was somewhat over priced. I dropped $40 for a combined total for my plate of rigatoni with tomato sauce and a tip.
As the lady is not totally wrong, we were still not informed that the 20% gratuity was not added, making it seem our tip that we thought we left was not good enough, and that we just needed to leave more cause in her eyes her worker ādeserves itā.
I work in a restaurant back in my home town as a waiter/management position so I know how situations like this should be handled. For starters you should never be rude to a customer and give them a attitude for a tip. Where Iām from you work for your tip it is not forced upon the customer as gratuity. You do a good job you get a good tip. Simple as that. I know this system works because we have 4 of the same restaurants in different locations with a fully packed house every day.
Poor management and poor communication to customers leads to a horrible restaurant. As there was an attempt to apologize to me because they soon realized I was mostly right in this scenario, this is no excuse for something like this to happen. I will never be coming back to this restaurant and I will tell people who are coming to ocean city not to come to luigis.
You want good service and great food for a good price in ocean city? Go to ocean city grilled cheese! They know how to run a good restaurant with the most...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy husband, children (4 and 2 years old) and I decided to venture off the boardwalk for dinner last night and walked down Asbury, Wesley and 9th St. We stopped in several restaurants to check out menus and vibes of each place and were impressed with several options. We, ultimately, decided on an intriguing looking Italian place, Luigi's. Firstly, the food was superb. My children had spaghetti and meatballs; my husband, a salad; and I had the Chicken Cacciatore. The bread and olive oil served pre-dinner was also incredible. But, mostly, I have to complement the service. I have eaten at some of the best restaurants in Europe and cities throughout the United States as a child and adult. When I was younger, my siblings and I were always catered to, but nothing like I observed last evening at Luigi's. The staff on hand that late at night was small and it was an extremely personal and inviting environment. Our waitress and hostess recognized that having a 2 and 4 year old was, of course, difficult when trying to enjoy dinner and, immediately, came over to us when my son started jumping around. They, sincerely, wanted to help my husband and I and, to my son, were like "hey, do you want to see the kitchen?" or "hey, do you want to come and write on this chalk board with me?" They took time to get to know us. During dinner, the two of them said, "hey, you two relax, let us take your kids to the adjacent booth." They did and I observed my children having probably the best eating experience a child could ever have. The chef and staff came out to check on our meals. They took time to tell us the story of the restaurant's history and it's recent transition, their efforts to restore and enhance the restaurant's recipes, menu and reputation. I have no doubt that they will. I do not write online reviews, but felt that this was an experience others should have and hope that my review will...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreA friend recommended Luigi's based on their meatballs. We were stuck with hour long waits in Somers Point so we tried it. Four out of the five of us enjoyed their meals. The bread is about the best down here; however, there were 4 pieces for 5 people. (I asked and found that a woman goes there daily to bake it.) The olive oil aioli for dipping was good but there was very little of it. I was disappointed that salad was not included with our entrees, they were priced a bit high for al a carte. But the rocker salad was delicious. Two had Milaneses, a chicken and a veal, and enjoyed them. Two had parmigianas, eggplant and chicken, and were equally satisfied. I ordered a bottle of sparkling water and got plain spring. Not a big deal but I would stayed with tap water instead of paying for sparkling, I like the bubbles. One of the specials was linguini and clams, a favorite. I think I left more than half. It was too salty and too filled with dried seasoning. Instead of a parsley basil flavor it wreaked of that nasty dry Italian seasoning blend. Since there was no parsley, the dish even looked bland. It had four whole clams and lots of minced clams but the minced did not taste good. You could not taste, or see, any garlic or olive oil. I saved extra bread to sop up juice but there was none. I'd return but...
