The pizza here is good but our last experience really put us off. A few days ago we head to the upstairs deck to get seated. There was a couple seated directly before us, then us then a family behind us. The waiter (an older gentleman not one of the younger fellas) came over and we placed an order for a pitcher of soda, an order of breadsticks and a medium cheese pizza. Roughly 30 mins goes by before we get our drinks. When the waiter finally brings the pitcher of soda he forgot the cups. So we're sitting here on a really hot day, thirsty and watching our drink get watered down as the ice melts but hey, mistakes happen. While we are waiting for our cups we see our waiter wandering around with 2 orders of breadsticks on his tray. Just wandering around looking confused. It was obvious that he forgot what tables those ordered belonged to. Then about 10-15 minutes of us waiting for our cups he comes over and gives them to us. He also had an order of bread sticks on his tray. He put our cups down and started to walk away when we asked if those were our breadsticks. He said "huh? Oh yea here" and put them on the table. There were three breadsticks so we finished them quickly. In this time the tables that were seated directly before and after us were eating their pizza. Please note that they had 2 different waiters/waitresses. One of those was a family that ordered 2 pizzas and here we were still waiting for our medium cheese pizza. Over an hour goes by and we see our waiter wandering around again with whole pizzas looking confused but none of those get delivered to us. At one point he comes to the table and tosses breadsticks on the table (which we didn't order a second batch of) and leaves. A little bit later he tries to deliver us calamari which we didn't order. So twice, he tried giving us other peoples orders instead of our very simple cheese pizza. Please note that by now, the people who were sat before and after us have both eaten, paid and left. At the 1.5 hour mark I finally had enough and asked a waitress that was serving another table of she could send the manager over because this was getting ridiculous. We waited and the manager never showed up. So I decided that I would give them 10 more minutes to either get me my pizza or manager, after 10 minutes I was going to grab a menu to find out the cost for the food that we actually received and we would leave the cash and go. After 10 minutes I got up to grab a menu and as I did I saw our waiter headed our way with a pizza. He sets it down on the pizza stand and started to walk away. It was a pizza with pineapple and ham. I stopped him and said it's not what we ordered and he made up some story about how it was so hot that he was just setting it down. If that were true, why was he walking away? Once he said that I said that we have been waiting almost 2 hours for a medium cheese pizza. Instead of an "I'm sorry" he IMMEDIATELY got rude, defensive and started raising his voice about how it's not him that makes the pizza. I said, ok, I want a check for the soda and the ORIGINAL order of bread sticks so that we can leave. He got even angrier saying "if you don't want to wait whatever that's fine" all while raising his voice. My husband had had enough and we went to find the manager ourselves. Once we met her we were telling her about the atrocious attitude and service and (with great timing) as we are talking to her the waiter comes over and is yelling about how we just don't want to wait. I reminded her that we'd been there for about 2 hours at that point. We got there at around 5 so we wasted 2 hours of one of our last nights on vacation waiting for a pizza that never came and were yelled at by our waiter when we had the AUDACITY to be annoyed when we waited almost 2 hours for a pizza when everyone else with a different server was in and out quickly. So this wasn't a case of them being understaffed and busy. This was clearly a case of incompetence on our waiters part. After all of this nonsense, we will not...
Read moreIf you have any concerns at all about coronavirus (or cleanliness in general) then do not eat here. We ate outside on the rooftop and I felt so uncomfortable eating there that in hindsight we should have just gotten up and left. We were seated at a table that had not been wiped down (had Parmesan cheese all over it). What's worse is that the lady who sat us there appeared to be a manager. There were plenty of other socially distanced tables that we could have been sat at. Although I can't be sure if those were any cleaner. Being in view of one of the hostess stands we could see that non of the menus had been wiped down between customers. Which is basically coronavirus sanitation 101 for restaurants. One of the servers wore her mask below her nose the entire time we were there. I watched one of the tables be wiped down with some spray and a couple of the thin napkins they supply on the tables. The pizza was edible although it was super greasy. I know from past years of eating here not to get any toppings (they are not fresh) so I just had cheese. At one point a very young girl let a couple sit directly next to another sat table (no six feet distance there). We have been out to eat several time since restaurants have reopened and this was the first and only place so far that showed zero effort in making people feel at ease and didn't follow the covid-19 guidelines that restaurants are supposed to follow (I work in a restaurant and know all about these protocols). The only reason I gave two stars instead of one is because our waitress had a very pleasant demeanor and she was efficient at her job. She did a great job even though you could see that all the servers outside were overwhelmed. She was actually the only reason that we ended up staying. Tony's has always been a staple on the boardwalk and I do hope they can turn...
