Bread and Roses Bakery & Beanery — Restaurant in Ogunquit

This place should have around a 4.7 rating but I see a handful of entitled smooth brain tourists have given this place a 1 star rating after clearly being rude to the staff and being angry that they don’t bend over backwards for them. Anyone who doesn’t appreciate how special this place is has no idea what they are talking about when it comes to food.

I live and Boston and will make a special trip here whenever I am near by. My wife and I just planned a vacation to Ogunquit and I said “I can’t wait to go to Bread and Roses every day”. I’ve been to dozens if not a hundred bakeries in my life and this is easily in the top 3 all time. Their blueberry whoopie pie and muffins are other worldly and the best I’ve ever had. Their biscuits and breakfast sandwiches will change your life. Truly some of the best bites of food I’ve ever had.

I was in Maine last week and wanted to bring back a really good Blueberry pie so I found this place online. We picked up the pie first thing on Thursday September 24. I was shocked at the price $37 for a pie and it wasn't even a very large pie. Anyway I was bringing it to a party back home in NY and I told our guests that this is supposed to be the best Blueberry pie in Maine. We'll we were all so disappointed. The crust was tasteless no buttery flaky taste and texture. It was the consistency of cardboard. The fruit was ok but for me the crust is everything in a good pie. This one wasn’t it for me. (I emphasize FOR ME because it might be it for you) my husband liked his salted caramel latte and raspberry cheese croissant. My dirty chai was suuuuper sweet (my bad for not asking if their chai was sweet or spicy but normally a shot of espresso takes out the sweetness). And the spinach feta croissant was kinda bland. But it was close to the beach and it was easy to walk to.

It’s small with only outdoor seating. Not a complaint just something to be aware of! Especially if you hit rainy weather like we did. Also the food and small drinks for $28 seemed like a lot but maybe that’s just the tourist...
