The hotel consists of refurbished buildings next to the beach, with a few rooms overlooking the ocean. Our room (#103) is located in a sunken floor with a small window through which nary a ray of light came across and from which we could contemplate the tires of the parked cars, no water, other than that of the rain, was in sight. The room has a ceiling made of styrofoam that my 5'2"companion could touch with her hand. The room is a narrow passage occupied by two single beds, a minimal round table and two chairs, leaving a narrow passage between the beds and the TV that allowed us to go to a sparse bathroom that had no available space for our toiletries. When the rooms next to us or above us sprung into activity, we could share their evening plans and participate of their bathroom activities. We had a minimal kitchenette but amidst the dismal setting we could not muster the disposition to heat up anything in the microwave. The word to describe so ghastly facilities for which we paid more than we paid for a 17 floor suite in Quebec has not been yet invented, but is beyond depressing. If it rained, we had no place to be except this room. The cleaning staff was lazy and, though we left them a daily tip, they never swept the floors. Two days before we left we arrived at 8PM to find that they had neglected our room and the front desk lady made our beds. We left one day in advance. They refused to reimburse us for the last day, offering a bigger room for one day. We...
Read moreMy wife and I give the Marginal Way House a 5 star rating. This was the first time staying in Ogunquit Maine. We booked room 104 for Friday and Saturday and to check out on Sunday morning. The house setting and the views of the water is very beautiful on the property with a walking trail right off the property that goes over the bridge to a beautiful beach that we walked along in the morning. This is easy walking distance to everything in downtown shops. We walked everywhere. The rooms were very clean and charming. Laura and her coworkers were very kind and very helpful. My wife and I had a few things that we wanted that were not included in our package, but when we asked Laura ,she made every one of them happen. We do understand that they cant do everything all the time but she went over and above for us. Thanks for a great memorable weekend. We will be back and we highly recommend that people stay here. George and...
Read moreI had stayed here in June when I was recovering from surgery and really liked it. I impulsively booked a 2 night stay for this week through Booking.com. Apparently this website uses photos for unrelated rooms on their site so I unknowingly booked a room up a steep flight of stairs overlooking the road, rather than the waterfront room I thought I was getting. When I questioned this with the Marginal Way House staff and showed them my booking with photos I was told my complaint was with Booking.com and I should have called them to clarify the room, as if I knew there was a problem before I got there. The room was well decorated, the cleaning staff were incredible but I had to sit out on the lawn to see the water, the stairs were a continual challenge and the noise from others who shared the landing was awful. The location is wonderful but I won’t return and will look elsewhere for my trips to Ogunquit. Beware of...
