I went here for lunch and it was nothing special. I ordered some grilled chicken panini for lunch and it was just bland. The bread was ok, it was "fresh ciabatta bread" whatever that means, I highly doubt they're making dough in that kitchen. Fresh out of a bag or box, sure. The arugula on the sandwich was wilted and not in good condition. The chicken itself was dry and did not taste freshly cooked or even grilled at all. I guess the "fresh vine ripe tomatoes" were ok. Again, nothing really special. Just not a great panini. It came with a side of pasta salad and with various diced vegetables. Not bad either. I sat in the open front section of the restaurant and it was nice. A beautiful view of hundreds of tourists walking up and down the side walks of the tourist trap known as Ogunquit. The only reason this place is spared from getting 1 star is the hospitality. Quality service, friendly and professional wait staff and a decent environment, but slightly estranged due to the restaurant lacking the "Italian cafe" atmosphere it identifies as. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. Your best bet is to get in your car, drive in any direction straight out of Ogunquit and look in any other part of Maine for a place...
Read moreToday, we had the pleasure of dining at Caffe Prego for lunch, located on Shore Road in Ogunquit. This charming Italian restaurant boasts a Sicilian flair and offers various seating options, including an indoor area, a semi-enclosed patio, and a full outside patio. The atmosphere is cozy and inviting, with a full bar and gelato bar. The menu is diverse and reasonably priced, featuring dishes made from scratch. Upon entering the restaurant, we were warmly greeted by all working there. Our bartender/waiter, Vukasin (Vuki), provided exceptional service, and his personality only enhanced the dining experience. We ordered the Frozed Espresso Martini and Blood Orange Cosmo, which were perfectly balanced and delicious. For starters, we chose Italian Wedding Soup and Clam Chowder, both of which were outstanding. For our meals, we selected a meatball sub, panzanella salad, and a lunch special fall pizza. All meals were made with fresh ingredients and were very pleasing to the palate. I particularly enjoyed the pizza! If you're seeking a prime location to dine, socialize or observe the vibrant atmosphere of Shore Road, we highly recommend Caffe Prego for a satisfying dining...
Read moreWe have been to Cafe Prego during prior vacations in Ogunquit and liked it. This year we loved it! I asked the waitress if I could request a dish that wasn't on the menu. She asked the Chef, Dominic, who said yes. It was the best spaghetti alia olio I've had in years! The garlic was finely chopped and was white and soft, no charring. The pasta was perfectly aldente, and the olive oil was richly colored yet clear, and flecked with bits of parsley. The bread, with the crust sprinkled with rosemary, was so good I almost skipped adding the Maple Butter. Glad I didn't! My husband had a meatball sandwich and the meatballs, in a delicious red sauce, ("Italian gravy"), had actually been sliced and layered! The final happy surprise was the side dish, a combination of small curly pasta with chopped red and yellow peppers, lightly covered with a mild cheese sauce. The food was excellent. An added bonus was the keyboard player and the saxophone player, who play there once a week. Altogether, a...
