I’m always on the lookout for some good BBQ. Stopped in the local restaurant for a change of pace in a market that’s dominated by seafood and Italian cuisine. This is a family run brick and mortar restaurant and bar. Dear old dads picture is hanging proudly on the wall reminding us that everything in life has a humble beginning.
I ordered a good amount of food to have the proper experience including brisket burnt ends, pork shoulder(pulled pork), smoked wings and 1/2 rack of ribs.
The pork shoulder was tender, flavorful and moist, the brisket was the same. The house made sauces complimented the pulled pork really well, especially the spicy sauce. The baby back ribs had a really good bark, was tender but not so tender it fell immediately off the bone. It had a great bite, which is what you want in a rib. I’m a bigger fan of St. Louis style but these baby backs hit to spot for us.
The smoked wings were cooked to the right tenderness, however as with all the food items they were missing a valuable component; Smokey flavor. I tasted slight notes reminiscent of oak and it was very mild but nothing of apple, cherry, mesquite or even hickory. I’m not saying it should have all those notes but maybe a little experimenting with more wood in the live-fire.
The coleslaw was nice and mild with a nice peppery bite. The cornbread was lacking in moisture, It seemed very basic.
This is a nice family run place and they are hard working. If you’re looking for something that isn’t lobster or fried seafood then give these folks a shot. The food stands out for sure and they have a great chance to succeed if this market will realize that there’s other options such as Smoky B’s Gin...
Read moreAMAZING! My husband and I were up in Ogunquit for the weekend and saw this place as we were driving by. We were in the mood for some low key casual food so we decided to stop. This place was DELICIOUS! Only open for 2 weeks and they are killing it! The food was outstanding, we got the #2 combo platter with chicken -literally the best chicken I've ever had so moist and crispy at the same time ribs- so much meat and flavor, and the brisket was so smokey and moist. The corn bread and baked beans were dynamite too. One of the best BBQ places I've ever been to. Josh and his wife (the owners) were so attentive It was worth every penny. There was a table of 4 next to us who were also giving the place rave reviews and said it was some of the best they've ever had including places they have tried in the south. Do yourself s favor and check it out. Ps happy hour prices are awesome too! $2 beers and $5 sangria... can't...
Read moreJust ate here this afternoon while spending Memorial weekend with my wife in Ogunquit. I'm a HUGE BBQ fan so I had to check it out. I'm was VERY IMPRESSED! We shared the #2 plate which came with ribs, brisket, chicken and cornbread. It was all CRAZY good! Hands down BEST chicken I've ever had. The cornbread came with delicious cinnamon butter. The rib meat fell off the bone. The brisket was tender and packed with smokey flavor. Our plates came with small cups of BBQ sauce for dipping. Talk about a fantastic meal! On top of it all, the owners Josh and his wife were incredibly friendly and accommodating! We sat outside to eat but the inside had a cozy laid back atmosphere one would expect from a BBQ smokehouse. This place is awesome. If you LOVE BBQ food like me, you'll LOVE Smokey B's! We definitely plan on going back next time we...
