Walked in and were seated immediately at 7pm on a Saturday evening. The place was busy, but not packed. Music wasn't blarring. Hockey was on the TVs. The fish tanks were beautiful. We ordered a Yum Beef Salad and a Tom Yum Shrimp soup as appetizers. Our entrees were Grizzy Roll Sushi and a Seafood (Shrimp, mussel, squid and scallop) Spicy Basil - this came with clear soup and house salad.
First, the house Salad, which had probably the best ginger dressing I've had in a while and the clear soup came out first. Then my daughter's Sushi. Then my salad. Then her Tom Yum Soup, then my Spicy Basil. The timing was just off, just seemed like lots of extra trips to the table, but no worries. They did seem to clear the dishes as soon as we finished them. The drinks never ran dry.
My only complaint was the Yum Beef Salad wasn't a chili spice kind of spicy and I'm not sure what the crunchy was on top. It was good, just different then any Beef salad I've had before. It didn't have the lime flavor either. They gave me a whole bowl of the ginger dressing with the salad, not understansing why and VERY glad I tested the salad before pouring the dressing on - the salad looked dry from the top, but it had a dressing on the lettuce beneath the Beef.
The Spicy Basil was very soupy. Again, it tasted ok, but it was just drenched in sauce, and it was a thick gravy. I would not order the Beef Salad or the spicy Basil again, but I would return to try other items. My daughter said the Tom Yum was tasty, but missing the zing, the clear your sinuses zing. The Sushi was also very delicious and...
Read moreMy wife and I have been coming here every since they opened. The food has always been great and ALWAYS took plenty home to make another meal. This last time we went we were so disappointed we may not be back. The Tempura appetizer we got was awesome, and the soup was great also, but that is it, the salad - the ginger dressing was so watery there was none on the lettuce it looked like they ran the dressing thru a strainer for the juice and kept the solid parts to remake more dressing. I got my usual Filet and Lobster, it is expensive but if it is good then I a fine with the cost. I literaly got 6 pieces of filet, 2 of them were normal bites the other 4 were like half bites, no way it was an entire filet, the lobster was the same way 8 small bites, it was in the lobster shell but there is no way it was a full tail, I think they are halfing the portions, the vegatbles were very few, mostly broccolli, i hate brocolli. Normally my wife takes my broccolli and I am left with a decent portion of veg, this time I had three bites. The "fried" rice was not fried. more like boiled brown rice, almost no seasoning, no egg, no little dice veg like normal. My wifes meal was the same way. An $85 meal and we both ate everything left, went down the street and grab a couple of burgers to take home. We have NEVER left that place in the past hungry, usually we are miserable from eating too much and we have left overs, NOT this time! if stuff has gone up fine, raise your price a little and give me the same portions, dont rip me off by charging the same price and giving me...
Read moreI'll start by saying that I've lived in California for over 20years, so eating Japanese, Korean and Thai food has been a very large part of my dietary history. We decided to eat here because I did not want a wheat-focused meal. The service was very attentive and quick. The menu was heavily Japanese with a smattering of Thai Dishes. We ordered edamame, Yum Beef salad, and a combo Hibatchi platter with steak and lobster. The edamame was great. The combo came with Miso soup and your standard ginger dressed iceberg lettuce salad. The salad had not been drained properly, the dressing was tasty, but there was too much of it. There was no actual Miso or tofu in the soup, though the base broth was very tasty. I chalked that up to Southern taste buds being wary of the floating lard, lol! And that's what I think you should keep in mind with this place: the flavors are pretty good, but sauce pairings and oils used for cooking will reflect the region. For example, butter was used in the fried rice that accompanied the steak and lobster, but both of them were perfectly cooked. The Yum salad was not spicy at all, and rather than use green papaya, and peanuts they used chopped romaine and crispy onion. Simple substitutions that reflect the palates of their clientele. Over all, it was good. The fusion is not cross-Asian, rather Southern Cuisine and Japanese. Worth a try. I'd love to know...
