I recently discovered Tupelo Honey Southern Kitchen & Bar while searching for a lunch spot to enjoy with a co-worker. Although I primarily work from home, the allure of exploring new eateries downtown always entices me. Intrigued by the inviting ambiance showcased on their website, I promptly made a reservation – a convenience I always appreciate being able to do online.
Upon arriving, the newly remodeled Harney street immediately caught my attention, appearing smooth and inviting compared to its previous state. The restaurant's modern exterior and expansive patio, perfect for those agreeable Nebraska weather days, added to the overall appeal.
Stepping inside, the interior boasted a fantastic ambiance and decor, characterized by high ceilings, abundant greenery, and a stellar bar featuring high-top tables, regular tables, and booths. The menu, predominantly Southern comfort cuisine with a brunch focus, showcased chicken and waffles as its standout dish.
Before delving into the entrees, the pimento cheese dip caught my eye. As a pimento cheese enthusiast, I couldn't resist ordering it as an appetizer. Coming from the Midwest, grits aren't a common menu item, but being in a Southern restaurant, I felt compelled to try them. I opted for the dish featuring barbacoa beef over grits – a choice I was eager to savor.
Our appetizer was a hit, with the chips alone earning praise. Topped with a hint of cinnamon sugar, they paired perfectly with the delightful sweetness of the pimento cheese. It's a dish I would gladly order again.
When our entrees arrived, there was a mix-up with the orders. I received the barbacoa sandwich with a side of tortilla soup instead of my selected dish. Despite the waiter's offer to correct the mistake, considering it was a work outing, I graciously declined and assured him it was okay. As a gesture of goodwill, he offered a complimentary side of grits, and I could sense the sincerity in his apology. While an unexpected hiccup, I found this to be a reasonable compromise, though, of course, it would have been preferable if the mistake hadn't occurred in the first place.
Regardless, the grits were phenomenal! As someone not well-versed in grits, I found them to be exceptional and believe they would be enjoyed by any grits enthusiast. The barbacoa beef, while splendid, wasn't my preferred form in a sandwich. The tortilla soup, with its robust flavors and well-balanced seasoning, was a standout.
Although I didn't sample my co-worker's breakfast bowl, she devoured every crumb. Served over grits, she couldn't stop raving about them. I'm already looking forward to returning and trying the Sriracha chicken and waffles for brunch – Tupelo Honey Southern Kitchen & Bar has undoubtedly...
Read moreI absolutely loved this place. The decor and the atmosphere made it feel like I was in a nice southern restaurant and it was very well done. The courtyard patio area is so beautifully lit up and decorated and I am sure will be jam packed come Spring.
I went in around 5pm, so I got to enjoy the happy hour menu for drinks and snacks. I got the pineapple peach sangria and also tried the same as a Southern Soda. Both were very good, but that honey wine they put in the sangria just put it over the top. Soooo good.
I got the crispy Brussels sprouts and the biscuit for a cause for my appetizers. The sprouts were superb. Perfectly crispy and just the right amount of crunch without feeling like the sprout did not cook enough.
The blueberry jam and whipped butter with the biscuit was one of the best things I think I have ever tasted. The blueberry is actually more of a compote instead of a jam because it has whole blueberries in it. The biscuit itself was quite large. They said they call them kitten head biscuits because they are around that size and shape. You definitely only need one. I ended up eating half before my entree and the rest after, including the remaining blueberries as my dessert.
For my entree I got the meatloaf with the crispy Mac n cheese and the rosemary and parmesan potatoes.
Now let me tell you... Fan-Freaking-Tastic!!!! I usually would not go for something while chorizo because I am a wimp and usually don't like the spicy. But this was the exact perfect marriage of beef and pork that made this knock it out of the park. The glaze on it made it so it didn't need anything added to it.
The Mac was good, could have used more creaminess in the cheese and sauce, but thats just personal preference. The potatoes were crispy on the outside with a tender center that really made the flavors pop.
The wait staff was super attentive, the drinks were fast, and the presentation was pleasing to the eye. I never waited more than 2 minutes for anything to be brought to me and I think my entree was perfectly timed.
My waitress was Nat, whom was super friendly and noticed little details like my pin on my purse and complimented me on it.
I will definitely be returning, and recommending it to the guests...
Read moreTupelo Honey is a southern scratch kitchen that has many other locations around the states, and finally we have one in Omaha ! if you're looking for good southern homemade food, look no further, Tupelo Honey has what you're craving !
at my most recent visit (surely not my last) , I was nestled in a comfortable booth out-looking the rest of the restaurant, which may I add, must be one of the most aesthetically pleasing restaurants in Downtown Omaha.
They have an extensive menu of unique drinks, alcoholic and non alcoholic. I ordered myself the Lavender Lemonade. the Lavender Lemonade is tart and delicious , and the homemade lavender mix softens the palette.
For my entree, I ordered the classic chicken and waffles. I had never thought about trying chicken and waffles here in the Midwest, but I'm glad this was my first chicken and waffles experience, because I was astounded. The chicken is dusted with a delicious in-house spice called "honey bee dust". It's got a bright and almost tangy profile balanced out with a full-bodied, savory flavour. It pairs wonderfully with the fluffy and sweet profile of the waffles, as well as the melt-in-your-mouth chicken breast. (you can add breast of chicken as an upcharge, and let me say it was well worth it.)
they also have three desserts, and I'd be a fool if I had passed that opportunity up ! they have banana pudding , chocolate loving spoon cake , and pecan pie. everything on the dessert menu is made in house, except for the chocolate loving spoon cake. I decided to give the banana pudding a try, and of course, I was not disappointed. the banana pudding, I was told, is made with cream cheese, which adds to its rich and velvety texture. the bananas are fresh and soft, and the vanilla wafers that are in the pudding itself are soft as well.... kind of like if you were dunking some cookies in milk... (perfect, is another word I would use haha).
Not only was all the food beyond my greatest expectations, but the service was wonderful as well. You can tell that there's a family dynamic inside of Tupelo Honey Omaha, and honestly, that can make or break a place- no matter how delicious the food is.
Thanks Tupelo Honey for a wonderful dining...
