Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers — Restaurant in Opelika

First time trying this restaurant chain, spotted the sign as we exited interstate I 85 (very convenient location, easy in & out) we were on a trip to the Auburn/Opelika area yesterday. Googled real quick to see offerings and decided to go for it. Since we were on the road for quite a while in the a.m., we went straight into restrooms upon entering dining room at lunchtime. Hubby said mens' room was fine but the ladies' has only one regular stall and it needed some urgent attention--ppl are stupid at times and continue to use & add tp even when commode not flushing properly. Also, trash basket was so full of used paper towels that since they were right under towel dispenser, when it had automatically let down after ea use , the new sheet was touching used towels. I put foot inside can to push the used ones down which then made it only 1/2 full. Then I yanked off what was hanging and had touched ones in trash. After that the new towel was not hanging down on top of used ones anymore. That was not entirely store's fault, so I just reported toilet issue to an employee and we continued to the counter & placed order. We thought of a similiar restaurant chain *steak n shake * as we sat waiting for our food. Wondered if food would be same. Didnt take long and our order was ready. We were very impressed with the flavor of our burgers. I wanted onion rings for my side but they were out of them although since I got the onion steakburger, I still got my onion fix. Fries are real skinny, crispy and perfect amt of seasoning. My husband enjoyed his double cheeseburger and fries too. Glad I didnt let the bathroom part of visit deter me from trying the food. While we never saw anyone go in to handle the problem with commode in ladies room....assuming they did as soon as got a chance, we may have been so into our meal we missed them...there was only one more group, table of 4 men, inside eating but Im sure at around noon the drive thru was probably way busier (in back of store so we didnt see how long line was) So that's why 4 stars, I would definately try this location again. I would , if see one in another town we visit, not hesitate to go there and try other items on the menu. Next time will save room for milkshake, they...

Maybe it was just the wrong time of day for me to visit. The restaurant is new, so it was relatively nice and clean on the inside. However, once visiting the bathroom to wash my hands, I noticed the employee before me walk out and when I went to wash my hands, noticed the sink was dry. I just thought maybe it was coincidence (maybe it dries super fast or something). Then as I was drying my hands and preparing to leave, the other employee in the bathroom put his hands under the water for a second and was done - no time to even wash his hands, especially not with soap. Then, to top it all off, there was a hair in the #6 sandwich I received.

Now, if just one of those had happened in a visit, I'd possibly understand and just say it probably doesn't happen on a normal day. But, when three things happen on a single visit? I'm sorry, but I'll possibly never be back again anytime soon, at least until I know these issues have been resolved.

As far as the food went, it was good. A little pricey, but good and hot nonetheless. The two ketchup dispensers were out or nearly out and was only able to get a little...

$21 for two combo meals. Seriously? You can get double the food for half the price at Wendy's. Tastes better, too. The overcooked meat tasted "off" on both our burgers. Fries were totally dried out. This "caramelized steakburger" is a poor imitation of Steak and Shake. It was so ridiculously dry and overcooked as to be nearly inedible. Two large drinks were almost all ice. I had an extra cup with me, so I poured the soda into it, and it was about 7 ounces of drink in this supposed "large" they serve. Add to that a totally indifferent cashier who seemed to really hate her job and hated to serve us. No "thank you" or "sorry for your (20 minute) wait". Both of us had a stomach bug for about 18 hours afterwards. Must have been that "off" tasting meat. Will never ever ever eat...
