We were sending our daughter off to college and needed some where decent to eat for a goodbye dinner that was not pricey. This matched and my 14 year son had eaten at another Black Bear Diner somewhere else and loved it. 1st let me say the biscuits were some of the best I have ever had. They were almost as big as a softball and and yes soft and very flavorful. Wow!!! The salad was fresh and can't go wrong there. The dinners were regular. Nothing that popped for me to say WOW! It was good just average. The fried chicken is the normal frozen type that you can get at most establishments and they all look and taste identical. I was hoping for more of a home fried not box fried. The mashed potatoes are good, homemade and have the peels in them buy just a little to many peels. The chicken strips were same I can get at a gas station. The pot roast was the winner out of our 3 meals. Tender and flavorful. Our service was nice but was business get the job done service. We fried many times to get anything towards a regular human conversation and he was just polite and about the meals. Although he messed up on the pot roast and brought mashed and baked potatoes and forgot the veggies. Dessert was hard ordering. I went for the cheesecake and he kept trying to get me to order strawberries on it. I wanted either huckleberry, blueberry or cherry in that order. Each time I said one he would ask if we don't have that would you like strawberries. No I don't want strawberries. I got frozen black berries and wasn't even asked if I wanted that. Then my wife ordered the banana split that comes WITH strawberries and he left them off. ??!!
So this rating got a 3 based on the food for the most part. If it were the service it would be a 1.5 or 2. Stull good to go to especially for the...
Read moreHonestly I was disappointed. I've been to these diners before and thought they were great then. But the last few times I've been unimpressed. Here's why:
Food: There are good things, and bad things. The ham steak is phenomenal. Seriously it's a step above the rest - so flavorful. The fresh squeezed OJ is worth it and amazing. The bacon is also thick cut and flavorful, and the pancakes were surprisingly better tasting than I thought they'd be.
The cinnamon roll French toast were disappointing. It was really bready, and the pancakes tasted sweeter honestly. The hash browns were just...terrible. bland and soggy. The sausage wings were also oddly not delicious (and I like sausage links). The sweet potato fries we're also floppy and bland. Only after adding salt were they so-so.
Why 2 stars: black bear diners "shtick" has been freshly prepared food that tastes better and costs more. It didn't feel worth it tonight, for overall so-so food, even despite some great items.
Service: Sorry y'all, but the service was not great tonight. We were one of maybe four customers in the diner. The server was attentive (borderline too much, but it was also a slow night, so no worries), but she was suddenly not there when our food came out of the kitchen. We were left waiting for what felt like a while. I walked to the manager to ask for our food, and I noticed several dishes on the hot plate. Those were ours, and when I sat back down they brought it over. Silverware was also not present either (isn't that prepared before hand?). Only after a couple of minutes, did the server check on us and mention bringing the check out. We had barely started our meal. From then on, I felt like the experience was rushed and kinda...
Read moreHad an experience this morning with this orem location that left me very disappointed in their customer service. I ordered an online order that was delivered to me about 40 mins later which is expected but I realized my order was completely wrong. I ordered chicken sausage, eggs with cheese, fruit and wheat toast. what i received was some weird looking scramble, egg whites, spinach and mushrooms . just looked disgusting. I called and told the employee about the situation and as soon as I said I was frustrated, they hung up. i thought it was an accident so I called back and told them that we must have been disconnected , and they responded then I told them the same story and they hung up on me again. i called back and asked for a manager, (a male ansererd this time) he was very kind and handed phone to manager. the manager said it was her on the phone and she didnt hang up, she just didnt hear me. maybe this is true but seemed she could hear me in each phone call. she then didnt seem super empathic to my situation and basically just told me that they didnt have chicken sausage so they gave me that? i just told her that she should have given me the eggs and cheese, and bread too, not something completely different. she just said she will tell them to make sure the order is correct next time.
i work in customer service and i am manager myself, i get it can be difficult but i would never treat a customer like this. its sad that it was a manager that treated me like this. ive only been to the AF location and ive never had a bad experience with them but i will never go back to...
